Curious, sentient eye chests (for lack of a better description) are dotted around Hogwarts Legacy. The problem is that approaching them causes them to jump and wake up, presumably frightened by your presence. Other than the disappointment of having upset an adorable chest with a puppy eye glaring at you, this prevents you from getting to the stash of treasure hidden inside.

How To Open Eye Chests in Hogwarts Legacy?
- Keep a good distance from the chest.
- Cast the Disillusionment Spell.
- Approach the eye chest slowly.
- Loot the chest.
To unlock eye chests in Hogwarts Legacy, you’ll need to cast the Disillusionment spell before approaching the chest. Disillusionment causes your character to blend into their surroundings, making it more challenging for enemies – and sentient chests – to see you coming.
The idea is to approach the eye chests undetected and loot their contents. If you run up to a chest normally without the Disillusionment spell active, the chest panics, does a little side-to-side dance and prevents you from looting.
To unlock eye chests, we recommend casting Disillusionment a reasonable distance away from the chest, then slowly sneaking up. When you’re close enough, you’ll see a prompt to loot the chest (Square on PlayStation 5), a sign that your stealthy approach has worked. If it doesn’t work, move away from the chest, wait for it to reset, and try again.
Eye chests generally contain a hefty haul of Galleons, typically around 500. For that reason alone, they are well worth seeking out in Hogwarts and the countryside around the famed wizarding school.
