In Hogwarts Legacy, talents allow you to supplement and customize your combat effectiveness with targeted upgrades for spells, dark arts, dodging, blocking, stealth, exploration, and much more.
They are unavailable for the first few hours of the game as you get to grips with Hogwarts, classes, and explore the surrounding world. But, once unlocked they can completely transform the way your character fights and explores the famed wizarding school.
In this guide, we’ll explain how and when you’ll unlock talents in Hogwarts Legacy.

How to Unlock Talents
Talents are unlocked near the end of the Jackdaw’s Rest main story quest.
Continuing your search for the missing pages from the book you obtained during the Secrets to the Restricted Section main quest, you’ll steal some roast beef for Nearly Headless Nick as part of The Hunt for the Missing Pages quest.
The ghost then takes you to Hogsmeade to chat with a crew of headless ghosts known as the Headless hunt, blast some pumpkins, and, ultimately, meet Richard Jackdaw. You’ll then head off in search of Jackdaw’s corpse and the notes as part of the Jackdaw’s Rest quest.
You’ll travel through the forbidden forest and then into a winding cavern full of spiders and chests to loot, arriving finally at the map chamber. There, you’ll talk to Perceval, who’ll push the story forward. After talking to the wizard, Talents unlock automatically.

Talents Explained
Talents exist in Hogwarts Legacy to enhance your character’s spells and attributes, notably in combat, stealth, and general utility. Talents act similarly to skill points in other games.
One talent point is awarded every time you increase your Wizarding level starting from level 5. You can check your Wizarding level by accessing the field guide and checking the number at the top of the screen.
To spend talent points, load up the Field Guide and select the Talents menu, then one of the sub-categories. Finally, hover over the talent you want to unlock and tap Acquire Talent (X on PlayStation 5).
