Hogwarts Legacy has a robust transmog system that allows you to customize the look of your wizard’s gear and outfit. Though it’s available from the start of the adventure, the game doesn’t do a particularly good job of explaining how the system works or how to access it.

In this guide, we’ll explain how to transmog in Hogwarts Legacy.

What Is the Transmog System in Hogwarts Legacy?

The idea of transmog is to replace the appearance of an item with that of another but keep its stats, trait slots, and bonuses the same. So, for example, you may like the look of a low-level cloak with poor stats. You may be reluctant to equip it as the lower stats might reduce your combat effectiveness.

With transmog, you can equip a cloak with much better stats but have it take on the appearance of the low-level cloak. It’s a convenient way for players to personalize the appearance of their wizards without health, offense, and defense stats suffering.

How to Access the Transmog System in Hogwarts Legacy

  • Open up the Field Guide, and head to the Gear menu.
  • Equip the item you want to modify.
  • Hover over the item and tap the button to ‘Change Appearance’ (square on PlayStation 5) to bring up the transmog system.
  • Hover over the appearance you want to apply to the item and tap the ‘Change Appearance’ button (again, square on PlayStation 5).

Every item you’ve collected or unlocked so far in Hogwarts Legacy appears as a transmog option. This includes gear rewarded for completing quests and challenges or found out and about in the world, usually in chests dotted around Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, and the surrounding countryside.

Conveniently, even items you sell or destroy appear as permanent options in the transmog system, which means there’s no need to hold on to any gear you might like the look of but has weak stats.

You can sell items to keep your inventory tidy without worrying about losing out or hoarding every bit of gear you come across. The system ensures players can pick and choose their transmog appearance from a vast range of handwear, facewear, headwear, neckwear, cloaks and robes, and outfits to make their character look exactly the way they want.
