Whether you’ve received the ‘Kill 15 Devastators’ objective, or are just on the hunt for some new enemies to take down, you’ll want to know all you can about Devastators before you go jumping in. These rocket-propelling enemies can be tough to deal with, especially when a group of them shows up. You’ll quickly see your Helldiver ragdolling across the screen if you don’t curb the threat.

Where to find Devastators in Helldivers 2
Devastators can be found in the western part of the galactic map, on planets controlled by the Automaton faction. There are no specific requirements for them to spawn, such as difficulty or player level, so you should be able to find them by simply heading to one of these Automaton-controlled planets. They can often be found during the Bot Drop event and Planet Defense missions. Devastators appear from the earliest, Trivial, difficulty up to Helldive difficulty.
If you’re trying to kill 15 of them for a Personal Order, we recommend heading to an Automaton planet and seeking out Automaton bases. These are filled with different Automaton enemies and you’re sure to find plenty of Devastators to take down in no time flat and earn those Medals.

How to beat Devastators quickly
Devastators are a long-ranged threat that come in several variants. No matter which one, your approach should be the same. Like all but the basic Automatons, they have weak spots that allow you to deal more damage than when shooting their armour. You should always look to focus your fire on them. For Devastators, those are their tiny head, waist, and limb joints. If you want to be done with them quickly, use armour-piercing weapons like RS-422 Railgun, Autocannon, or EAT-17 Anti-Tank. If you’re content to just use your primary, then we suggest you always aim for their head.
Other tips to consider:
- Incapacitate them by blowing off their limbs: You can incapacitate them by targeting their limbs with different weapons like shotguns, explosives, or other heavier weaponry. Once Devastators lose their arms, they can be knocked down fairly easily. An Anti-Material Rifle is great for this but you’re better off aiming for the head with this sniper rifle.
- Use stratagems to take down groups: Stratagems like Eagle Cluster Bombs and air strike barrages can also demolish groups at a time. Sentries like the Autocannon turret and Rocket sentry can hold off these enemies as you target their weak spots from cover. And if there are other enemies alongside these Devastators, consider the 500kg Bomb or an Orbital Strike.
- Watch out for different Devastator variants: Be aware that there are different variants of Devastators, and depending on which type you come up against, it could change how you approach them. Tougher variants hold a shield, while others have shoulder-mounted rocket launchers or cannons. You can predict enemy rockets when you see Devastators leaning forward, ready to tackle the rockets’ recoil.
Make sure not to mistake a Berserker for a Devastator. Unlike Devastators, Berserkers will sprint at you, and can catch you off guard if you’re expecting the much slower enemy type. You can recognize Berserkers by their flailing chainsaws.
Often found alongside Devastators, make sure to learn how to deal with Scout Striders in Helldivers 2 as well. And if you’re off taking down Devastators, you’ll want to ensure you’re geared up with the best weapons and best armour. That way, you can make short work of any Automaton threat.
