Wondering how to fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2? While Capcom’s sequel encourages on foot travel and exploration, there is an option to fast travel between certain cities and settlements by Oxcart or by using Portcrystals. Neither feature is available immediately when you start a fresh save and you’ll need to jump through a few hoops first.

We’ll walk you through how to fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2. For more help surviving Vernworth and beyond, check out how to pass time, our Dragon’s Dogma 2 tips and tricks beginner’s guide, and how to get Salubrious Draught for The Provisioner’s Plight side quest.

How to unlock Oxcart fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To unlock Oxcart fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’ll need to push through the main story quest, specifically the one called In Dragon’s Wake, until you reach the capital, Verworth. Once there, you’ll find Oxcarts marked on your map, one near the northern gate going to Melve, and another to the west going to the Checkpoint Rest Town.

Note that Oxcarts only travel during the day so if it’s nighttime, rest until morning to use one by iterating with the sign near the Oxcart station. They appear on the mini map as Ox icon. Oxcart rides cost 100 gold or above per journey, with the price rising the further you travel. You can’t travel to every fast travel spot from any Oxcart station, though. For example, the Oxcart in northern Vernworth only travels to Melve, which does make fast travel fairly limited.

Once aboard an Oxcart, there’s the option to doze off to speed up the journey. But, there’s a good chance the journey will be interrupted by monsters, which you’ll have to clear before you can hop back on the cart and continue your journey.

After you reach Verworth, you can also complete a side quest called Oxcart Courrier by talking to Donovan at the Oxcart heading to Melve to get a sense of how Oxcart fast travel works. He’ll ask you to accompany the cart back to Melve in case any monsters attack and bring a letter penned by Lady Margit for Ser Lennart at the same time. He’ll cover the fare this time. Deliver the letter to Ser Lennart, who is usually walking near the centre of the village. Take the Oxcart back to Vernworth and talk to Donovan to wrap up the quest.

How to fast travel using Portcrystals in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Portcrystals act as traditional fast travel points like you’d see in other open world games. Permanent Porcrystals are found in cities and towns, but you can also put down your own reusable Portcrystals wherever you want throughout the world (you get one in the A Trial of Archery side quest), but only up to 10 at a time. The first Portcrystal you’ll come across will likely be in either Vernworth or Harve Village, both in the starting Vermund region. The Vernworth Portcrystal is just south of the Grand Rifstone of Vermund.

To activate a permanent Portcrystal, you’ll need to interact with it a least once before you use them as destinations. To use a Portcrystal, you’ll need a Ferrystone, a consumable available as loot or purchased in various shops for a steep 10,000 gold. Check out our dedicated guide to Ferrystones for more details.

A little confusingly, to travel to a Portcrystal, you’ll need to open up the Item menu, hover over a Ferrystone, tap Use, then choose the location where you want to fast travel to.

As you can tell, fast travel is possible in Dragon’s Dogma 2, but the game makes it pretty inconvenient, all in the service of prompting players to explore on foot.
