What are Helltide Tortured Gift Mystery Chests in Diablo 4?
Tortured Gifts of Mystery in a Helltide are one of the best ways to get Legendary items in Diablo 4. Helltides occur once every 75 minutes and last for an hour. Keep the Helltide timer in mind as you clear its high-level mobs and bosses. They can affect one of Sanctuary’s five regions: Fractured Peaks, Scosglen, Dry Steppes, Kehjistan, and Hawezar. Each Helltide spawns two Tortured Gift of Mystery across the region in addition to smaller Tortured Gifts. Season 2 makes Helltides even more rewarding.
Chests now offer an absurd amount of XP just for opening them. In World Tier III, the experience has been boosted by 375 percent, and in World Tier IV, it has been boosted by 750 percent. A hotfix to chests ensures that Helltide Chests now have the chance to drop any Unique and aren’t restricted to specific item slot limitations from any chest.
These chests are unlocked by Aberrant Cinders that drop from enemies under the influence of a Helltide. While you can run across the region to hunt demons, events that occur inside the Helltide are a surefire way of racking up Cinders. Tortured Gifts also have mobs around them, letting you harvest more of them. Teaming up with clanmates and friends or even total strangers for a limited time will make this process quicker. But try not to die as you drop half your Cinders when you are vanquished by a Helltide’s forces.

How to unlock Helltide Tortured Gift Mystery Chests in Diablo 4
While smaller Tortured Gifts cost 75 Cinders to unlock, they offer a Legendary item with a low chance of dropping crafting materials like a Forgotten soul. A Tortured Gift of Mystery chest costs 250 Cinders in Diablo 4. But these chests can drop 4-6 Legendary items with a chance of them being Sacred or Ancestral gear in Season 2.
Only two Tortured Gift of Mystery spawn in the region during a Helltide. Considering that Diablo 4’s five regions are massive, you might spend precious time just looking for a chest to unlock. Cinders expire when you leave a Helltide or when one ends, so this makes mystery chest locations even more important. Here’s a list of potential Tortured Gift Mystery Chest locations across all of Sanctuary.
Tortured Gift of Mystery Chest locations in Fractured Peaks
Fractured Peaks has six spots that you need to check for Tortured Gift of Mystery chests. You’ll find them in the northwest and central portions of the region. Check the Frigid Expanse and Sarkova Pass areas during a Helltide to find these chests.
Head north from Menestad and you’ll find the first mystery chest near the Frosty Mine cellar. Another is near an Altrart of Lilith near the east exit of Kyovashad. And there’s another one near the Immortal Emanation dungeon.
Menestad and the Kyovashad waypoints will let you close in on these mystery chest locations in Diablo 4.
Tortured Gift of Mystery Chest locations in Scosglen
You’ll need to comb through these eight spots for Tortured Gift of Mystery chests in Scosglen. These are all located in the northwest portion of the Diablo 4 map. Run across the Northshore and Deep Forest areas to spot them. Remember that the two chests won’t move for the duration of the Helltide. This means you can drop a pin, grind your way through mobs, and return to unlock Tortured Gift of Mystery chests for Legendary gear.
You’ll find one on a small island with a shipwreck near the Abandoned Coast. Another one is in the Fothrach Castle near the Cursed Scarps region. The third one’s near the Sunken Ruins dungeon in Stormbreak Cove. Find the next one past the Scourging Ings and east of Writhing Brook. There’s another chest in the Ancients’ Woods and one near the Webbed Lode cellar in Vasily’s Reach.
The closest waypoints are Marowen, Braestaig, and Tul Dulra.
Tortured Gift of Mystery Chest locations in Dry Steppes
The Dry Steppes region has four Tortured Gift of Mystery chests spread across it. This region is in the western part of Sanctuary. Take a look at the Khargai Crags and Untamed Scarps areas to find them.
There’s one at the end of the helltide area between the Onyx Watchtower and Hidden Overlook waypoints. Find the next one in the Crucible of Cinder and another before you reach Alzuuda’s Fields of Hatred east of the Jirandai waypoint. There’s one in the far west of Jirandai too.
As for the closest waypoints, consider Jirandai, Ruins of Qara-Yisu, Fate’s Retreat, and Onyx Watchtower to bag these chests.
Tortured Gift of Mystery Chest locations in Kehjistan
You’ll take a while to find Kehjistan’s Tortured Gift of Mystery chests. There are thirteen potential spawn locations that you need to check. Hunting through the Amber Sands, Ragged Coastline, Southern Expanse, and Omath’s Redoubt areas will lead you to one of two Tortured Gift of Mystery chests.
There are plenty of options here. Most of them involve heading around the Altar of Ruin and Iron Wolves Encampments. Look near the Uldur’s Cave dungeon and the Dimmed Grotto for some chests. As for the ones near Gea Kul, check the Southern Expanse shore and south of Hakan’s Oasis.
With loads of chests, here are the waypoints to keep an eye out for in Kehjistan. These are the Altar of Ruin, Iron Wolves Encampment, and Gea Kul waypoints.
Tortured Gift of Mystery Chest locations in Hawezar
Hawezar’s four Tortured Gift of Mystery chest locations fall in a zig-zag pattern that splits the region in two. The Dismal Foothills and Fethis Wetlands areas are where you’ll spot them. There’s a good chance that you’ll need to use the mount to get to both locations on time.
Look by the Feeding Den cellar and the Fethis Wetlands for two mystery chests. And there’s the third chest near the Cursed Cabin cellar before the Fields of Desecration. The final one is past the Heathen’s Keep dungeon.
Hawezar’s mystery chests are near the Wejinhani, Ruins of Rakhat Keep, and Vyeresz waypoints.
Tortured Gift of Living Steel
The Tortured Gift of Living Steel is new in Diablo 4 Season 2. This chest costs 300 Cinders and gives Diablo 4 Living Steel, needed to summon Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint. He’s one of the new Diablo 4 Season 2 endgame bosses. Defeating him drops Shards of Agony, used to summon Duriel’s uber boss variant for a shot at uber uniques. Diablo 4 vampire powers and the right vampiric pact armor will help you beat these new threats.
If you’re worried that you won’t be able to hit 250 Cinders in time, open a regular Tortured Gift chest. These can be found all over the region affected by a Helltide event. This will ensure that you don’t waste Cinders as they are reset once a Helltide ends.
