Many endgame bosses in Diablo 4 require special materials to summon them. Most can be found while doing other endgame content, but Living Steel is a bit different. It is used to summon another boss, Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint, but you’ll have to farm up the materials first. This guide will explain where to find and use Living Steel.
Where to get Living Steel
Living Steel can be found during the Helltide events on any World Tier difficulty. Specifically, these summoning items can only be found as rewards in special chests found while the Helltide is active, called the Tortured Gift of Living Steel. These will spawn during Helltide events and can be opened using Aberrant Cinders, which is a currency you can farm up during the event. You’ll need 300 Aberrant Cinders to open one Tortured Gift of Living Steel. Each chest contains one Living Metal on the first two World Tiers. On World Tier 3, you can get 2-4 Living Steel from a chest, while the same chest in World Tier 4 yields 5-10 Living Steel.
While the location of the steel chests will change, you can check the map while playing the event and look for the chests you need, including this one. Be careful when you open them, though, as an elite enemy pack will spawn that you’ll need to fight before the chest opens. Also, note that you can’t carry over Aberrant Cinders from one Helltide event to another. So make sure to farm up the 300 you need to get Living Steel and use it before the event ends.
Where and how to use Living Steel in Diablo 4
You can use your gathered Living Steel to summon Grigoire, the Galvanic Saint in the Hall of the Penitent. This is a dungeon in Dry Steppes, located south of Ked Bardu, accessible in WT3 and WT4. You will need to gather 2 Living Steel to summon Grigoire in World Tier 3, and 5 Living Steel to summon him in World Tier 4. If you want to face the Tormented version of the boss, you’ll need 15 Living Steel.
