What are the Fields of Hatred?

The Fields of Hatred are specific locations in Sanctuary where you can attack other players, as well as the monsters you find here. There are two places where you can find the Fields of Hatred, which are in the Dry Steppes and Kehjistan. You’ll be able to recognise these areas on your map as they have a reddish shade to them, instead of the usual beige colour. These are the only locations in Diablo 4 where you can PvP, so make sure to head here to begin.

How do you PvP in Diablo 4?

For your first time, you’ll want to head to the Fields of Hatred in the southern Dry Steppes region. In the west of this Fields of Hatred, you’ll find a small town and be given a new Priority Quest. Talk to the man the quest marker indicates and he’ll introduce you to the PvP system.

To begin PvP, you first need to enable it by marking yourself for blood. Open up your action wheel by pressing E on keyboards or up on the D-pad for controllers. From here, you can select ‘Mark for Blood’ to enable PvP if you’re in the Fields of Hatred. With this enabled, you’ll be able to attack other players, and vice versa. If you’re not marked for blood, you can’t be attacked, so can safely walk through the Fields of Hatred.

Your goal in the Fields of Hatred is to collect a type of currency called Seeds of Hatred. These Seeds can only be obtained in the Fields of Hatred. You can obtain these through basically anything in the Fields of Hatred, such as killing enemies, completing events, and opening chests. You can bring your Seeds to an Altar of Extraction found in the Fields, and perform a Purification Ritual to turn them into Red Dust. This Dust can be used to buy items from vendors in the aforementioned town.

While you’re in the Fields, you can kill other players in order to take their Seeds for yourself. This also means that other players will be looking to do the same to you. If you manage to kill enough players to have the most kills in the Fields at that time, you’ll be marked as Hatred’s Chosen. In this state, your location on the map is revealed to other players and can no longer perform Purification Rituals. Instead, you’ll be forced to survive long enough to receive a more powerful reward.

Be aware that once you’ve marked yourself for blood, the only way to remove this mark is to interact with the Altar of Cleansing in the town of the Fields of Hatred. Similarly, you can simply run out of the Fields to leave the PvP area, but this will destroy all of the Seeds you’ve collected, as well as remove your Hatred’s Chosen title if you had it.
