The LG C2 has enjoyed a brilliant reputation since its release, and will be succeeded by the LG C3 later this year. It’s featured on top of our lists as one of the best TVs for PS5 and Xbox Series X, featuring LG’s new Evo OLED panel and near-perfect blacks. Though we’re yet to formally review the S95C, at least on paper it’s challenging the LG C2 on a number of specs.
You might be weighing up whether or not the S95C is worth the upgrade, especially now that you could save over $1000 on the S95B. However, there are plenty of features to be excited about. Your decision to upgrade will depend on your usage and budget, so it’s good to be clear on these factors ahead of jumping into our discussion.
We’ll be comparing what we think are the key comparison areas between the Samsung S95C and LG C2. We’ll consider everything from specs to gaming features and value for money. By the end, you should be able to make an informed decision on which OLED TV is best for you.

As you can see from the table above, there are a number of key differences between the S95C and LG C2 – below we’ll help make sense of the specs.
First, let’s discuss the display. The S95C is a QD-OLED display. Designed by Samsung, QD-OLED combines the best qualities of OLED and Quantum Dot to produce brilliant contrasts, deep blacks and QLED peak luminance. On paper at least, the S95C boasts a higher peak brightness of 2,000 nits than the LG C2.
The S95B’s superior brightness makes it the go to choice if you’re watching content in a bright room.
Apart from brightness, how does the LG C2’s OLED display compare? Though it’s hard to make compare it to the yet-to-be-releaed S95C, the LG C2 seems pretty evenly matched. If you’re a fan of cinema, you’ll appreciate the wide color gamut and high contrast ratio of the LG C2, though we can’t say for certain whether it’s superior to the S95C.

Moreover, though the LG C2 has a lower refresh rate of 120Hz than the S95C, it’s more of a difference you notice on paper, so don’t let it put you off the LG C2. Both TVs are great for gaming on account of their high refresh rates and HDMI 2.1 connectivity. We’ll discuss their gaming performance in greater detail slightly later.
We’d also like to point out the difference in screen sizes available. The LG C2 comes out on top here in terms of versatility, offering the full spectrum from 42″ through to a whopping 83″. The S95C’s largest size is 77″.
Samsung S95C vs LG C2 – which is better for gaming?
The S95C, on paper at least, is the superior gaming TV.
With a higher refresh rate of up to 144Hz, the S95C seems to perform swimmingly when it comes to gaming. Its predecessor, the S95B was already miles ahead with its 9ms output lag, and the S95C is no different.
Other than Dolby Vision support, the S95C supports all major technologies used in next-gen gaming consoles. There’s FreeSync Premium, Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), and Samsung’s version of Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM).

The S95C also comes with the ability to stream games from the Xbox cloud, Nvidia GeForce Now, Amazon Luna & more. This is all without the need for a console, which will be a welcome feature for gamers.
But what about the LG C2? LG’s old flagship has a 1ms response time and a number of the same gaming features, including ALLM, VRR, HDMI 2.1 support and 4K @ 120Hz. It’s a brilliant TV to pair with your PS5, and is well suited to games that use a lot of blacks and darkness. DeadSpace Remake anyone?
Overall though, it’s fair to say both games perform impeccably in both competitive and casual gaming scenarios. You can’t really go wrong with either, though the S95C potentially has the edge thanks to its superior brightness levels.
Samsung S95B vs LG C2 – sound quality
The S95C offers improvements in sound quality compared to its predecessor, though we still recommend boosting the audio with a soundbar due to Samsung’s ultra-slim nature of QD-OLED TVs.
However, Samsung has improved the performance of its Object Tracking Sound feature. This translates to a more powerful, multi-channel soundstage. This feature succeeds in accurately placing special effects in exactly the right place on and off screen.

The LG C2 meanwhile is fitted with 2.2 40W speakers with Dolby Digital Plus, providing up to 7.1 surround sound while supporting the meta data required for Dolby Atmos. It still lacks the power and deep bass of a TV with larger speakers, and until we’ve tested the S95C, we can’t say which TV has superior sound quality.
Samsung S95C vs LG G2 – price comparison
The difference in price will be an influential factor for most potential buyers.
The S95C will cost you a staggering $4,499 if you’re going for the 77″ model. For the 55″ and 65″ displays, it’s likely that you’ll be paying between $2-3000.
The LG C2 meanwhile costs a similar amount, despite being a year older. That being said, if you keep your beady eye on popular retailers like Amazon and BestBuy, you may find the LG C2 subject to a juicy discount in the coming months.
Indeed, the recent announcement of the LG C3, means we’re hoping to see more deals on the LG C2, potentially making it the better value TV to go for in 2023.

Are Samsung or LG OLED TVs better?
Although we’re making some fairly broad brush strokes, we’ll give you the following answer:
If you’re in need of a brighter picture, Samsung’s QLED TVs are superior. Especially suited to watching content in a brighter room and overcoming glare, the S95B or S95C is the way to go. The S95C is also more power efficient than the LG C2.
LG meanwhile is well known for creating brilliant contrast ratios in their TVs. We can’t outright say whether the LG C2’s contrast ratio is superior to Samsung’s S95C, however, it’s fair to say it’s powerful.
The LG C2 is also more likely to be subject to discounts as LG prepares for the release of its flagship LG C3 TV. If you’re interested, we’ve already begun speculating the potential specs and price just to make your final decision that little bit harder!
