We found three completely free image generation AI.
Dall-E 2
Dall-E 2 is our first option for free-to-use AI image creators. Not only is Dall-E 2 capable of creating images based on a few words of prompt, but OpenAI explain that their AI can also to increase the boundaries of existing images, edit features within images, and create variations on a given image (like a super advanced filter). Dall-E is hosted and developed by OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT and GPT-4.
Stable Diffusion
Stable Diffusion is our second option for free-to-use image generation AI that is also capable of photo-realistic images.
Night Cafe
Night Cafe is our final option for free-to-use AI image generators. This option is slightly different from the other two, as it focuses more on creating art than photo-realistic images. On the website there is even a daily challenges section, where users are encouraged to try out prompts following a theme, then vote on previous entries provided by other users. The highest ranking users then get their art displayed on the website and users can browse through.

We also found two options for alternative AI image generators that were mostly free, but had paid plans available for users who feel that would suit their needs more.
Artbreeder
Artbreeder is an art generative AI. For free you can use the service with no extras and only 10 credits per month. If that does not appeal, you also have the option to subscribe to the Starter subscription ($8.99/month), Advanced ($28.99/month) or Champion ($38.99/month).
According to Artbreeder, all three paid subscriptions come with the added benefit of Google drive sync, privacy controls, and custom genes. There is also a yearly billing option available for all three paid subscriptions.

Deep Dream Generator
Deep Dream Generator is another more art focused image generative AI. Again, Deep Dream Generator has a free-to-use option available. However they also three paid subscriptions plans. These are the Advanced at $19/month, the Professions at $39/month, and the Ultra at $99/month. Users should decide which is appropriate based on their ‘energy consumption.’
Each image creation or editing consumes a certain number of energy points. The different subscriptions offer varying allotments of energy. Also worth noting is that Deep Dream Generator only allow you to distribute AI generated images commercially if you paid either via subscription or via energy pack to create the image.

Shutterstock
Shutterstock is a paid AI image generator. It is a text-to-image based generator, capable of photorealistic, 3D and even more stylised results. Included in all the subscription is Standard Image Licensing. This allows users to distribute their images over the internet, OOH advertise up to 500,000 impressions, and print up to 500,000 versions of the image.
