1. Log out and log back in again

Our first solution is a classic. It’s the old ‘off-then-on-again’ trick.

Try logging out of ChatGPT, closing the browser, then trying to log in again. It could be that the page is lagging and all it needs to get going again is a quick restart to refresh itself.

2. Clear search and data history

If logging out and back in again didn’t work for you, it could be worth trying again, but this time also clearing your search and data history. This will remove all the unnecessary data history build-up.

3. Try again later

The problem may be that the server is overloading. If you leave the page for five minutes and then come back, the traffic problem may have eased.

4. Report the problem to the customer support page

If this is a problem you are getting consistently, it may be worth reporting the issue to the OpenAI customer support page.

For those of you who are logged in, you can access customer support by hitting the little bubble at the bottom right of the screen with the icon of a message in a circle.

If you’re not logged in, you can still access customer support here. Once there you will find a lot of frequently asked questions and their corresponding answers already solved for you. Type your query into the search box provided.

If you want a more individual answer, you should see a bubble at the bottom right of the screen. It will have a little icon of a message within it. Click on the bubble, then click Messages > Send us a message and type in your query; you should receive an answer soon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ChatGPT at capacity now?

If you have received an error message reading ‘ChatGPT is at capacity right now’ that means that the server is at capacity and your access to the chatbot will be briefly halted.

Why is GPT not working?

ChatGPT is a publicly available service. Occasionally, too many people visit the website and the server becomes overloaded. When this happens, OpenAI briefly halts access to ChatGPT and users receive a message saying ‘ChatGPT is at capacity right now’. The issue is commonly resolved by waiting for the traffic to calm down.
