Now, we put ‘complaining’ in quotes – because these aren’t real gripes with the game, but rather a tongue-in-cheek comment on the fact that Bethesda’s bugs are usually so great – they’re worth keeping.

Skyrim, if you didn’t know, is another one of Bethesda’s titles and has gone down in internet history. In fact, it’s gone down in real history with the famous “arrow to the knee” line penetrating all layers of pop culture. It’s certainly a fan favourite game, and can likely be attributed to most of Starfield’s oncoming success. Part of its charm was due to the immersion-breaking-game-destroying-hilarity-ensuing bugs that were never more than a stone’s throw away. Take, for example, the flying horse glitch or, even better, the giant chicken bug.

Starfield, on the other hand, is yet to see its glitches etched into internet history – partly because there just aren’t many to fuss about.

Just before the launch of Starfield, the day one patch notes were seemingly leaked. One of the alleged fixes was a fix for a “rare issue that could cause Companions to float in the air,” much like the floating horse glitch. A Reddit post was created stating that the “day one patch notes have already made me sad that this game is getting more polished,” while comments responding to the post elaborated on this sentiment.

“No, you misunderstood. They fixed the issue because it was rare. Now it’s more common,” one response smarmily states, only for another acerbic response in that “Bethesda has a reputation to uphold.”

Much of this was before the launch of the game. Now that Starfield is here, glitches are few and fare between. That doesn’t mean there are no bugs. For example we know of crashing and audio issues, though it doesn’t seem like they’ll rise to the same notoriety as a giant chicken. At the end of the day, while it’s sad to see a Bethesda game so polished that none of it’s signature glitches are present, it’s probably a lot better to see a fantastic, well polished game that players don’t have much to complain about.
