Although we’ve never seen her face, Eagle 1 has captured the heart of every Helldivers 2 player. She has become a worshipped deity within the community because of the massive help she provides from support. While Arrowhead has never shown her physical appearance, the Helldivers 2 developer has responded to shocking rumors that Eagle 1 has hacked off her legs.

Arrowhead have been excellent at engaging with fans. They have told fans that they are ‘looking into changes‘ for a controversial gameplay mechanic, and they have also discussed the possibility of adding squads bigger than four players. Not only that, but they have told the fanbase that the likelihood of adding melee weapons to the co-op multiplayer experience is ‘plausible’.

While the developer does a great job responding to feedback from fans and providing updates on what could be coming to the game, they are also excellent at just sharing creations from the community. In sharing another terrific fan art of the beloved Eagle 1, the developer has also assured fans that she has not had to cut off her legs to provide support.

Helldivers 2 Eagle 1 still has her legs

Helldivers 2 developer Arrowhead has confirmed that the fan-favorite faceless Eagle 1 has not had her legs hacked off to provide support.

The rumor of Eagle 1 hacking off her legs stems from the Expanded Weapons Bay Upgrade which ‘trims excess leg space in the cockpit, allowing the eagle to carry additional payloads’. This description has resulted in the imagination of some players running wild with some believing that her legs needed to be amputated.

On Reddit, magnesium_art shared some truly stellar fan art of Eagle 1 with legs before the Expanded Weapons Bay upgrade and without legs after. The official Helldivers 2 Twitter account shared this magnificent fan art while providing the following statement:

‘SE High Command would like to dispel any rumours that our Eagle pilots have been physically augmented to better perform their duty. If you see any personnel with unauthorized body modifications, they may be an Automaton dissident. Stay vigilant, Helldivers.’

So, there you have it. Even though we’ve never seen Eagle 1, we can all rest assure that she has not had to hack off her legs for democracy. In truth, the theory of hacking off her legs, while awesomely gruesome, didn’t make any logical sense as the Weapons Bay Upgrade trims ‘excess leg space’ rather than any leg space at all, plus pilots have historically had to sit in uncomfortable positions with their legs intact.

Still, the fan art is amazing, and it was an interesting theory nonetheless. In addition to this fan art, there’s another Eagle 1 image shared by Arrowhead that has fans swooning for the heavenly pilot even more.
