UPDATE: The RTX 4080 releases today at 2PM BST/ 3PM CEST/ 6:30PM IST/ 9AM EDT/ 8AM CDT/ 6AM PDT. This prediction is based on previous launches.

Today, the RTX 4080 release date, has the potential to be just as precarious as the launch of RTX 4090 last month.

The RTX 4080 is confirmed by Nvidia to release on the 16th November. We can expect a similar turnout of stock for the 4080’s launch date as we saw from the flagship – which is likely the case due to the shelved 12GB 4080s.

Once the release kicks off, you might be wondering where to buy the RTX 4080, and before you might be wondering if you can pre order RTX 4080 and what the price of the new GPU is.

Founded upon the new Lovelace architecture – which is the genius behind the RTX 4090 as well – the new 4080 promises to stun gamers with huge improvements over both the RTX 3080 & 3080 Ti.

If you aren’t able to snag an RTX 4080 on release, but you’re absolutely hell-bent on grabbing one this year – why not try picking up a RTX 4080 gaming PC instead.

RTX 4080 release time for launch date

Based on what we saw for the RTX 4090, we could be looking at a release time similar to:
2PM BST/ 3PM CEST/ 6:30PM IST/ 9AM EDT/ 8AM CDT/ 6AM PDT.

This is purely hypothetical, though it’s the release time standard for most notable tech launches such as the Intel 13th Gen release.

RTX 4080 12GB release date and ‘unlaunch’

Following the unlaunch of the RTX 4080 12GB variant, we’re going to see those cards rebranded as the RTX 4070 Ti instead. This follows the notorious announcement of the RTX 4080 12GB which saw performance benchmarks that were easily eclipsed by RTX 30-series GPUs.

In light of this, Nvidia had decided not to release the card as they had initially planned. This gives them time to turn those GPU dies into other cards instead. This response by Nvidia was warmly received as it will encourage a lower entry price point for high performance PC gaming.

Nvidia RTX 4080 – 16GB GDDR6X – 2.51GHz

RTX 4080 prebuilt PCs are on the market already – they’re likely made available at the release time. Prebuilt PCs are likely to cost almost two times as much that standalone graphics cards, however you’ll likely see your RTX 4080 paired with the best CPU such as an Intel i9-13900K or Ryzen 9 7900X.

Alongside having the latest CPUs, prebuilt PCs will have the latest LGA1700 or AM5+ socket motherboards – meaning PCIe 5.0 compatibility.

Will there be RTX 4080 stock on the launch date?

It’s likely that we’ll see a healthy amount of initial stock on the release date of the RTX 4080, however we also saw with the RTX 4090 stock huge shortages shortly after release. We’re likely to see a similar pattern on the RTX 4080 release date – so if you’re looking to grab an RTX 4080 as soon as they’re out – have a look at our where to buy RTX 4080 page.

Should I buy an RTX 4080 or wait for the RX 7900 XT?

Following the recent reveal of the RDNA 3 GPUs – we’re going to be seeing a competitive quarter in terms of graphics card releases. We’ve got a release date for the RX 7900 XTX and the RX 7900 XT, both of which are promising to be formidable competition of both the RTX 4090 and RTX 4080.

There’s two major factors to consider here: price and performance. The Radeon GPUs already have a massive advantage here, considering they’re consistently cheaper than Nvidia’s cards. The performance of RDNA 3 cards also leans in their favor – as they churn out considerable performance for the price.

We’re yet to see how the performance of the RTX 4080 stacks it up against its competitors – though we’ll find this all out on the RTX 4080 launch date – 16th November.

RTX 4080 FAQs

How much will the RTX 4080 cost?

The RTX 4080 16GB is going to be the only RTX 4080 released at this current moment, and based upon the release prices of the RTX 3080 – $1,119, we could be seeing a figure in the range of $1,100 – $1,300.

Why was the RTX 4080 12GB cancelled?

The RTX 4080 12GB was cancelled as there was backlash due to its similarities to the RTX 4070. Though it was disappointing to see the cheapest model of the RTX 4080 cancelled, it’s likely that we could see these models recalled and turned into genuine 4070s – which would introduce a great entry level for ultra performance GPUs.
