The Major Orders in Helldivers 2 rarely make any sense. It always seems as if we take one step forward and two steps back as much of our work is quickly undone by the decisions of Super Earth. After spending the past few weeks dealing with the Automatons, and putting them in one of the worst positions that we’ve seen since the Galactic War began, that was quickly reverted when we stopped our assault and left them to rebuild.

Following Super Earth’s successful decimation of the Automatons in the Andromeda Sector, Helldivers 2 players were then sent to fight the Terminids to help produce more E-710. While this was successful and vital for the continuation of the Galactic War, it does seem to have consequences and has undone some of the work that players have put in over the past few weeks.

Upon completion of the latest Helldivers 2 Major Order, players with greeted with the following message,

“The Helldivers have demonstrated a commitment to scientific progress equaled only by their fervor for Democratic supremacy. Thanks to their efforts, the Ministry of Science has ample data to further ongoing Terminid research efforts.

While no clear method of termination has proved to produce more E-710 than any other, our top scientists agree that establishing this beyond doubt was well worth the expenditure.

However, with the large quantities of data gathered, one new finding did emerge: rather than appearing randomly, as expected, Terminid mutations decreased in frequency as proximity to Super Earth increased. It appears that genetic variants are perpetuating from deep within Terminid space. The explanation for this new phenomenon is yet unknown, and more investigation is necessary.”

The new Helldivers 2 Major Order was then announced with a message saying,

“The Automaton forces remain split in two. We must maintain the offensive momentum. However, the Automatons have devised a new means by which to retain their stolen territory. Orbital Cannons now stand across Automaton territories, firing on our fleet and seeking to challenge our aerial superiority.

The Orbital Cannons are targeting SEAF air forces, extending extraction times. Fortunately, we have identified a weakness in the cannon’s targeting systems. The cannons rely on an interconnected system spread across multiple planets. Liberating one Automaton planet will destabilize the entire system, allowing temporary return to normal extraction times as it recalibrates.

Furthermore, if two Automaton planets are liberated in short succession—within 12 hours of each other—the array will be severely destabilized, allowing shorter extraction times for the remainder of this order. Every day the Automaton occupation continues, another of our citizens’ dreams are stolen. The Helldivers must deliver justice.”

The new Major Order in Helldivers 2 sends players back to face the Automatons after allowing them to begin to rebuild. Players have been tasked with liberating Ustotu, Varylia 5, Wasat, Vega Bay, and Wezen across the Ymir and Trigon Sectors.

While the E-710 was essential, it does seem like much of what was gathered will now be used to undo the damage caused by not continuing to put focus on the Automatons. Now, the robot army has Orbital Cannons which are being used to attack the SEAF, making extraction take longer which gives a greater chance of failure.

But, the Galactic War must continue and we will have to deal with the consequences of allowing the robot army to flourish once again. With the Escalation of Freedom update on the horizon, it will be interesting to see what direction the future of Helldivers 2 goes, especially as it will add new content for both factions.
