Dan Aykroyd has confirmed he will be appearing in the new Ghostbusters video game, although it doesn’t look like we will be playing it anytime soon.

The actor, Ray Stanz in the 1984 blockbuster movie, confirmed he is onboard the project during a newspaper interview given while touring Canada as one of half of the Blues Brothers. He also helped clear up some of the mystery about who owns the right to the game.

Aykroyd explained: “Universal [Studios] purchased the rights from Sony for a game. I’m actually going to have to perform and do some motion capture for them. That will be next year.”

News that a Ghostbusters game was in development for Xbox 360 emerged when prototype footage was posted on YouTube last month. The videos were swiftly taken down at the request of Sony but not before game developer ZootFly had the film’s legions of fans clamouring for more.

However, if Aykroyd is not going to start work until 2008, gamers could be in for a long wait before they finally get their hands on the title. As yet, a publisher for the game has not been named either.

But, with an established actor like Aykroyd aboard, things are definitely looking up for the project. Fingers remain crossed here though that comedy legend Bill Murray will also return as Dr Venkman.
