While we’re still a couple of weeks out from MW3, it seems the early release of a blueprint bonus given to those who are getting the game’s Vault Edition hasn’t gone down well with fans.

In case you’re unaware, the Modern Warfare 3 Vault Edition contents for those who want the upcoming shooter’s most premium package also contains a blueprint for a special Soul Harvester Tracer Weapon Blueprint as part of their additional perks. In an unusual move, Activision isn’t waiting until MW3 to release this special Blueprint, making it also useable in Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone right now. Part of the reason for this is that it’s tied with the ongoing The Haunting event, as its description reveals it rewards bonus Souls for killing agents and monsters. Souls are the event’s currency that lets players buy a host of unique cosmetic rewards for the duration of the LTE.

A purple-colored rifle on a red-colored background has already caught the attention of MW3 fans, who are tearing the Vault Edition blueprint to shreds.

But now the weapon is live in the game, it seems many members of the Call of Duty community are unimpressed so far. A thread on the ModernWarfareII subreddit by Guar2 simply reads “Yikes” with a picture of the blueprint as featured on the top of the Haunting Tab. Some of the community are even claiming that it doesn’t actually make a noticeable improvement to their souls collection haul. “It doesn’t give you anything extra, it’s broken,” claims Touchmymonkeyuk. It’s made more frustrating by the fact the weapon’s description doesn’t appear to explain exactly how many more souls you’re supposed to get as a result.

Some are pointing out that it’s not really ‘Pay to win’ with this blueprint, given the rewards for the souls are purely cosmetic, but it still leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. “SO egregious its absurd. Everyday they add something to the vault edition preorder,” claims LeeEmmanuel_IV. “They are literally making every attempt to get your money. This s*** is actually wild, how blatantly greedy a multi-billion dollar company can be,” says Eric549.

There’s also a contingent of players who are peeved at what little value they believe they got from MW2’s previous Vault Edition. “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me,” says FeasibleDuck. “After the absolute joke of the Vault edition of MW2 and it’s sheer abandonment, no one should even think about this in the slightest. But we know they will…”

MW3 releases in just under a month’s time – and already the MW3 live action trailer has gone live. For more on the game, check out this Call of Duty fan who’s used a classic SpongeBob meme to argue MW3 is not MW2 DLC.
