The MW2 fanbase are not easily pleased, as has been well established – and the latest thing to draw their ire are the skins on offer as part of the currently ongoing The Haunting event.

To bring you up to speed, The Haunting is MW2 and Warzone’s currently ongoing Halloween event, that offers a bunch of MW2 The Haunting cosmetic rewards for those who take part. Just by playing matches and killing opponents, players can earn souls which can be exchanged for prizes in the menu. Unlock enough items and you then earn the Mastery Rewards – comprising of a pair of Halloween-themed skins for the operators Roze and Konig. However, on unlocking these skins – players have taken to the Modern Warfare 2 subreddit to say how unimpressed they are with the offerings, and feeling that they’re not worth the effort.

“Does anyone else think this skin is just ugly?” asks timc_720 in their opening post, with plenty of other community members in agreement. “Yes, and also just another color swap of a basic skin. It’s the cheap looking pumpkin-patterned shirt that looks like the Halloween bargain bin from the supermarket that really gets me,” adds ChronoMonkeyX. Many also believe that it’s also deliberately poor, as the skin is technically being made available for free via the Soul Harvesting challenge. “All of the really amazing skins that put a lot of effort into it in detail are the ones that cost money. They’re just tossing everyone a little freebie bone to get everyone amped up for Halloween and the new game coming out,” says Tactotacotacorock.

A number of members of the community have also noted that it seems like certain operators seem to be often favoured for free event skins more than others – particularly Roze and Konig. “Also how lazy it is that skins from previous event were for the same operators :/ Wouldn’t hurt to give something new for Gromsko or Luna,” says Nenson2. “Roze has been a featured skin in 3? Events now and it’s an absolute sh** skin every time. Just give my girl back her Torn Veil skin at this point,” adds Goochasnders. Meanwhile, Iosiro is in agreement that Luna has been neglected for new skins: “I think it’s really funny that they legit just forgot about Luna. One skin in season 1, another in season 3 and that’s it.”

Given that most, if not all, of these skins will still come forward into MW3 thanks to the Modern Warfare 3 Carry Forward program – perhaps some of these other Operators could still get some love. We don’t have long to find out, as the MW3 release date rushes ever closer. Meanwhile, players are also up in arms about the Vault Edition exclusive Weapon Blueprint.
