Helldivers 2’s mechs might have just appeared in the game but that doesn’t mean that enemy Automatons are giving them any respect. While they’re great against armored targets, these lumbering constructs don’t last forever. Players have learned the hard way that their own tricks work against their exo-suits too.

In other Helldivers 2 news, a massive leak shows off new gear while enemy spawns will be nerfed soon.

Helldivers 2 players realize that Automatons can take down mechs easily

A Reddit post from player sleepycheapy prompted a lengthy discussion on how enemy anti-armor does remarkably well against the players’ mechs. Anti-armor rockets from enemies like Hulks and Devastators are conveniently lethal for Super Earth’s mechs. Some players criticized the mechs’ fictional manufacturer as they weren’t the hailed saviors of democracy as expected. Others like WinterFrenchFry reported that their mech would blow up even before they could enter it. And that’s before the stray planetary hazard entered the mix. For the moment, it seems that the Terminid forces haven’t quite learned to deal with this armored threat. But the Automatons have.

A user noted that Automaton anti-tank gear has a “1 second reload, extreme accuracy, a small enemy which is easily hidden amongst non-rocketeers, and infinite ammo.” Others suggested limiting enemy explosive ammo as a countermeasure. Much of this behavior is intentional and while mechs are certainly more durable than a regular human, their inconsistent ability to soak up damage makes some players question their effectiveness in combat. Player Glorious_Invocation was frustrated when two spikey plant explosions significantly damaged their mech but barely scratched human players.

While these quirks dampen the mech experience, there’s no denying that they are still a lethal stratagem that packs plenty of firepower. Tweaks to their chassis down the line could improve their durability in combat as well. For now, players will have to work with their fragile mechs against Automaton and Terminid hordes.
