How to avoid ground and pound in UFC 5

Ground and pound is one of the most effective ways of finishing a fight in UFC 5, one that you definitely don’t want to find yourself on the wrong end of.

However if you do end up in such a situation, then fear not, as all hope is not lost. There are a number of different ways in which you work your way back to your feet.

Blocking ground and pound

The first thing that you need to know is how to block strikes whilst you are on the ground.

The controls for this are identical to the controls to block strikes whilst you are on your feet and are as follows:

  • PlayStation: Hold R2 to block your head or L2 & R2 to block your body.
  • Xbox: Hold RT to block your head or LT & RT to block your body.

Avoiding straight shots

Whilst blocking shots is a good method to avoid losing large amounts of health, avoiding shots will help to drain the stamina of your opponent, which will increase your chances of finding a way back to your feet.

The controls to avoid straight shots are as follows:

  • PlayStation: Move the right analogue stick in the direction you wish to move your head.
  • Xbox: Move the right analogue stick in the direction you wish to move your head.

Avoiding hooks

The controls differ slightly if your opponent is throwing hooks, they are as follows:

  • PlayStation: Whilst holding L1, move the right analogue stick in the direction you wish to protect your body.
  • Xbox: Whilst holding LB, move the right analogue stick in the direction you wish to protect your body.

Avoiding hooks will prevent your fighter from picking up any damage, whilst also penalising the stamina of your opponent.

Escaping ground and pound

The Grapple Advantage Metre will appear whilst you are on the floor, with two colours shown, one indicating the advantage of the attacking fighter, and the other the defending fighter.

Once the metre reaches the colour of the defending fighter, you can end the ground and pound by simply pressing R2 if you are on PlayStation, or RT if you are on Xbox.

That is everything that you need to know about how to avoid ground and pound on UFC 5.
