Is weapon degradation in Tears of the Kingdom?

Weapon degradation makes a return in Tears of the Kingdom. Much like in Breath of the Wild, Link’s weapons smash into pieces after being used a certain amount of times against enemies. Additionally, shields and bows can also break after a certain amount of uses.

Has weapon degradation changed in Tears of the Kingdom?

While the concept of breakable weapons is identical to BotW, with melee weapons, shields, and bows shattering after a certain amount of use, Fuse, which is one of Link’s new Tears of the Kingdom abilities, can increase durability.

Fuse allows you to combine an item with a weapon, not only making it more powerful, but also increasing its durability. For example, you can create a makeshift hammer for Link by combining a boulder with a branch, which makes it a sturdier weapon overall. This should help with mitigating some of the previous frustrations surrounding the divisive mechanic. Additionally, items can be combined with shields and bows.

Can weapons be repaired in Tears of the Kingdom?

There is currently no confirmation on whether a weapon can be repaired in the game based on our playthrough so far. We’ve yet to come across any Tears of the Kingdom unbreakable weapons, however it seems likely that the Master Sword will be permanent once it’s repaired.
