Are there any Tears of the Kingdom unbreakable weapons? If you’ve played the previous entry, Breath of the Wild, you’re probably curious about this, so we’ll fill you in on everything we know. In Breath of the Wild there was only one unbreakable weapon, but has this changed in Tears of the Kingdom?

It’s worth keeping in mind that there’s plenty left to discover about Tears of the Kingdom, but we’ll continue to update this guide as we crack all of its secrets. We also have a guide on Tears of the Kingdom weapon degradation as well as a rundown of the new Tears of the Kingdom enemies, so you can feel confident entering any combat encounters.

Are there unbreakable weapons in Tears of the Kingdom?

Aside from the Master Sword, it doesn’t seem like there will be any other unbreakable weapons in Tears of the Kingdom, including shields and bows. Weapon degradation was clearly seen in the March gameplay demonstration, and it looks like it plays just as big of a role as it did in Breath of the Wild.

Assuming the Master Sword works the same in Tears of the Kingdom as it did in the previous game, it will have a cool down mechanic preventing you from always using it. In Breath of the Wild, it was weakened when fighting any enemies unaffected by Ganon’s calamity, and would soft break after a certain amount of hits against those enemies. It would then take 10 minutes for the sword to recharge until it could be used again.

Upon completing the Master Trials in the first wave of Breath of the Wild DLC, the Master Sword became ‘awakened’ which meant that it could be used against any enemies without cooldown. It’s currently unclear if this will be the case in Tears of the Kingdom, although based on what we’ve seen in trailers it appears that the blade breaks early in the game, so a repaired version probably won’t be seen until deep into the adventure.
