The Tears of the Kingdom Travel Medallion is an ability that you’ll want to acquire as soon as you can. It gives Link a much more convenient way to explore Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda TotK, finding new areas or marking points of interest.

If you’ve already got the Tears of the Kingdom Shrine Sensor, then the Tears of the Kingdom Travel Medallion is the next step. This will come in incredibly handy to return to a point in the Depths when there are no Tears of the Kingdom Lightroots around.

What is the Travel Medallion in Tears of the Kingdom?

The Travel Medallion is a feature of Link’s Purah Pad in Tears of the Kingdom. Once acquired, it lets you drop a waypoint where you’re currently standing, which you can then fast travel to at any time. This is a hugely useful ability to mark a hard-to-reach area that you want to return to, or simply just to mark somewhere you travel to often.

How do you get the Travel Medallion in Tears of the Kingdom?

To get the Travel Medallion, you’ll first need to complete the Hateno Village Research Lab quest. This involves heading to the lab in Tears of the Kingdom Hateno Village to have Robbie install the Shrine Sensor. Once you’ve got that installed, Robbie will give you the option to install the Travel Medallion.

He will say that the Travel Medallion prototype is in the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab in the far northeast of the Akkala region. He’ll set up a fast travel point for you to get back to the Hateno Village lab quickly, but you will have to get to Akkala yourself. He will also note that the lab has been ‘taken over’ by a strange group, but more on that later.

Head to Akkala. If you have it unlocked, the Tears of the Kingdom Ulri Mountain Skyview Tower is the best place to travel to, as you can use the boost from it to get most of the way to the lab. Once you’re in Akkala, head northeast and up the large hill along the east coast. On the way, you’ll come across some monsters which you can defeat or simply walk around. Keep going until you reach the lab at the top of the hill.

Once here, you’ll find that the lab has been taken over by members of the Yiga Clan. Try to open the door, and two members will come out to fight Link, a Yiga Footsoldier and a Yiga Blademaster. The Footsoldier can be defeated relatively easily with a few arrows but the Blademaster can deal a lot of damage if you get hit, so tread carefully against him.

Once they’re defeated, head inside the lab to find a fashion designer named Konba, who had been kidnapped by the Yiga to make their armour. He’ll give you a piece of Yiga armour and then leave. Walk to the northeast corner of the room and open a treasure chest to receive the Travel Medallion prototype.

Return to Robbie and he will install the Travel Medallion onto your Purah Pad. He also mentions that he can upgrade it in future to place two, and then three waypoints, once you’ve registered 10 and 15 Skyview Towers respectively. If you already have that many registered, simply talk to him again to receive the upgrades.

That’s all you need to know about how to get the Tears of the Kingdom Travel Medallion. The Travel Medallion might be a great travel option, but you still can’t beat a Tears of the Kingdom Skyview Tower for getting around.
