What is a Battle Talus in Tears of the Kingdom?

Battle Talus enemies are a variant of the regular Stone Talus enemy tha tcan be found across Hyrule. Unlike a regular Talus, Battle Taluses are covered in wooden planks acting as scaffolding for a group of Bokoblins. As such, they’re almost like a moving fort that you’ll have to take down bit by bit. They don’t appear in different variants like normal Taluses, so you won’t have to worry about fighting a Battle Talus and Frost Talus in one.

Before you begin the fight, equip Link with the best clothing and armour you can. Anything that gives an attack boost or has high defensive stats will be good. Also, chug an Elixir or eat any meals that give your attack power or defense a boost.

The first thing you’ll want to do is deal with the Bokoblins on top of the Battle Talus. They’ll just annoy you with projectiles, and if you decide to go up there they’ll knock you off quite easily. You can pick them off without much hassle using a bow and arrows. Now you can focus on the Battle Talus’ weak point, which is the rather obvious black rock on the top end of it known as a Stone Talus Heart.

One method is to simply chip away at it from afar with your bow. You’ll need to avoid the long lunges the Battle Talos makes with its arms for this by dodging either left or right, but other than those attacks you won’t have much else to worry about. If you want to go the close combat route, you can get up to the Talus a couple of different ways.

One of these ways is to use Ascend to fly up to the platform on top of it. This can be a little tricky if the Talus moves a lot, but it’s not a bad choice. Additionally, you can either stick close to the Talus and wait for it to use its forward lunge headbutt on the ground, giving you a clear path onto the platform, or you can tire it out by hitting its weak point with your bow and arrow, and Ascend upwards when it stops moving for a few seconds. It’s worth noting that it’ll launch you off after spending a short while on top of it, so you should be mindful of that.

Once toppled, it will give you some great rewards such ore materials and a strong Fuse material like the Stone Talus drops, but a nearby chest will also unlock for you to loot. Dropping gemstones like opal, amber, ruby, topaz, sapphire, diamonds and even materials like flint and luminous rocks, they’re well worth taking out if you find one.
