If you’re wondering how to fly in Tears of the Kingdom, you’re not alone. With The Legend of Zelda: TotK taking Zelda to the skies, being able to fly is incredibly useful when it comes to getting around, so knowing how to do it will make your exploration that much easier.

If you’re looking to reach all the Tears of the Kingdom Skyview Tower locations, you need a way to get yourself through the air so that you can explore the Tears of the Kingdom map to the fullest. Just be careful of Tears of the Kingdom fall damage – as you’ll spend a long time in the skies above Hyrule one wrong move can cost you dearly.

How do you fly in Tears of the Kingdom?

To fly in Tears of the Kingdom, you need to build and ride a vehicle that is capable of flight using the Ultrahand ability. While you can technically ‘fly’ using your Tears of the Kingdom glider, that’s more of a glide (very much the same as in Breath of the Wild), and won’t help you reach any where far away or higher above you. It’s a great way to descend safely, though. No, to fly, you need to build yourself a flying machine – or follow our guide on how to use wings in Tears of the Kingdom for the alternative.

The Ultrahand ability, which you pick up once you complete the Ukouh Shrine on Great Sky Island (which is the third shrine) lets you pick up objects and combine them together. Using this, you can attach a fan or several to a platform, and strike them to start them up. Following this, the propellers will lift the platform into the air, allowing you to fly upwards.

You can also use this to build a hot air balloon. By attaching a balloon above a platform, and placing a propeller in between, you can use the wind created by the propeller to lift the balloon in the air and fly.

Elsewhere, you can use the Zonai Wing, one of the many Zonai Devices, to get around the map. The wing can be found just outside the Gutanbac Shrine relatively near the start of the game. All you need to do is place it on the markers near cliff edges. It’ll start moving, at that point jump on to it and it’ll carry you slowly across the map. When it flashes green, it’s time to get off – as it’ll soon disappear.

Finally, you’re able to use the Recall feature to reverse time and use objects to take you up to certain areas. It’s not quite as glamorous as the other methods, but it’s great to get to some areas that are just beyond Link’s reach. Of course, if you can’t be bothered to fly there are other methods of traversing the huge map – such as fast travel.
