The Tears of the Kingdom Fire Temple looks incredibly confusing at first. A criss-crossing map of minecart rails spanning multiple floors is an intimidating prospect, so it’s no surprise that many players are struggling to get to grips with it.

Once you’ve checked out some of the nearby Tears of the Kingdom Lightroots, make sure to charge up your Tears of the Kingdom battery, because we’re going to guide you through the winding paths of the Tears of the Kingdom Fire Temple.

Preparing for the Fire Temple in Tears of the Kingdom

Tears of the Kingdom Fire Temple: A wide-shot of the temple. Text reads: "Fire Temple - Lost Gorondia Rediscovered"

The first thing you definitely need for this temple is some kind of fire resistance. This can come in the form of an elixir or a piece of Flamebreak Armour available at the Yunobo Co. headquarters just outside Goron City. You’ll have needed this resistance to get this far, but if you’re using elixirs, make sure you either stock up on more, or get yourself that armour.

Secondly, you’ll need to bring non-wooden weapons. Wooden weapons and shields will catch fire in the extreme heat, so in order to fight effectively, you’ll need to use non-wooden ones, such as metal and Zonai weapons.

Tears of the Kingdom Fire Temple walkthrough

At the front of the Fire Temple is a large rock blocking the entrance. Use Yunobo to break it and head inside. In this corridor, there are two small rooms on either side. On the left is a room with a metal sword and shield, and on the right is a chest containing 10 arrows.

Up in front of you, you’ll see a large metal drawbridge with five padlocks, and an altar to the right. Interact with the altar and you’ll learn that you need to unlock the padlocks to progress. While the padlocks can be hit in any order, the linear design of the temple means there is a best order to unlock them, which we’ll be going through.

Unlocking the first padlock

From the altar, head back down the ramp and up the stairs to the south. Here, you’ll find a Construct and a small lava stream. Jump over the stream using the stone slabs floating across. Turn to your left and you’ll see some Zonai Hydrants. Hit a hydrant to turn it on, and pick it up. Walk towards the next lava stream and the water will cool the lava to make a path. Jump onto each successive stone slab until you reach the other side.

On the other side, you’ll see a minecart with a fan attached on some rails. Jump on and hit the fan to start it up. Ahead of you is a large circular golden switch. Aim Yunobo at it and fire to hit the switch and change the direction of the rails ahead of you. Once your cart stops, jump out and head south. Kill the Fire Like to receive a chest containing a Strong Zonaite Shield and then pick up another hydrant.

Make some more stone slabs with your hydrant and attach them together with Tears of the Kingdom Ultrahand to make a long bridge. Lay it across the lava and use Yunobo to break the large rock ahead of you. You’ll see a giant gong in this room. Use Yunobo again to hit the gong to activate it, unlocking the first padlock. Head back to where you left your minecart.

Unlocking the second padlock

Hit the yellow switch in this room to raise the barrier. Get back on your cart and head down the rails, breaking the rock. Here, you might see a Construct on a cart coming the other way. Simply hit the Construct with Yunobo. As you turn the corner, stop the cart and jump off onto a small ledge to open a chest containing 10 arrows. Jump back on and ride your cart to the end of the rails.

Hit a small bell next to the rails to turn your cart around and jump back on. On the way back hit another track swapping switch to send the cart to the right instead of left, and ride it until you hit a barrier. Kill the two Igneo Pebblits you find here with a hammer, or just use Yunobo. Hit the bell here to rotate the track ahead and open the barrier, and ride your minecart to the end. Kill the Construct and open the chest to get 10 arrows.

Ride back to where you hit the last bell, and jump off. Head across the small bridge and hit the bell here to lower the tracks ahead, before riding the minecart across the gap. Run directly ahead of you and grab another hydrant and use it to make multiple stone slabs, which you can attach together to make a bridge. Head to the room at the back and activate the gong to unlock the second padlock.

Before leaving, use Tears of the Kingdom Ascend on the broken ceiling above you to find a chest containing three Zonaite, as well as two Zonai Device capsules. Return to where you left your minecart, and shoot an arrow at the bell on the other side of the gap, to raise the tracks back up. Ride your cart up the tracks to the next floor.

Unlocking the third padlock

You’ll end up in a large room with multiple Zonai Devices, capsules, and a Construct to defeat. On the west of this room, you’ll see two sets of rails. Place a cart on the northern rail, and attach a couple of the nearby Zonai Rockets to the cart. Hit them to send the cart forward, allowing it to jump the gap in the broken rails. Defeat the Construct on the other side.

In front of you is a broken bridge, with a large rock on top of the northern ledge. Grab the northern half of the bridge and unfurl it, creating a makeshift ramp. Roll Yunobo up the ramp to destroy the rock, dropping a few Zonai capsules.

Head into the room to the west, now, and connect the two halves of the broken bridge. Walk across it and head outside through the opening on the right. Remove the two metal plates to reveal a chest containing 10 arrows. Return to the bridge, and look up to see another large rock in the ceiling. Shoot Yunobo across the bridge, which will direct him upwards, smashing the rock.

With the rock gone, a large metal cube will drop through. Climb onto it and use Tears of the Kingdom Recall to fly up through the hole in the ceiling. Jump off the cube and hit the gong to unlock the third padlock.

Head back to the minecarts and hit the bell between the two sets of rails. Place your minecart on the rails you didn’t use earlier and ride your cart back to the main room.

Unlocking the fourth padlock

Head to the north of the room and you’ll see two bells. Hit the eastern bell to raise the eastern track, and then ride a cart up it to the next level. You’ll be met with another Construct on a cart, which you can simply defeat with Yunobo. Ride the cart until you hit a barrier, then jump out and head into the next room.

Roll Yunobo up a stone slab pointed at a large rock to break it and release another hydrant. You can use this hydrant to create a series of stone slabs, making a ramp up to the gong, or you can angle the first stone slab towards the gong and try and catapult Yunobo at it. Either one works. This will unlock the fourth padlock.

Unlocking the fifth padlock

Head back to where your minecart was, and walk to the southeastern edge of the platform. Look down, and you’ll see a hole in the wall on the floor below you. Jump down to reach a small room with two sets of tracks. Place a cart on the northwestern track and ride it to another area with another large rock. Use Yunobo to break it, revealing another bell. Hit the bell to rotate the southern tracks and return to the main room.

Go back to the two bells in the north of this room, and hit the two bells until the track ahead runs west to east, with the western end lowered and the eastern end raised. Turn your last minecart around and get back in, riding it around the corner and up the tracks you just rotated to reach a room with a Construct and a chest containing 10 arrows. Head to the west of this room, and ride another minecart up another set of rails.

Up here, kill the Construct, and walk around the corner to find a bridge. Walk across the bridge and jump down to find another set of tracks and minecarts. Hit the bell you find here to lower the tracks ahead of you and jump into a cart. As you ride the cart down, turn to the right, and you’ll see another giant rock. As you ride past, aim Yunobo at it to break it. If you miss, just turn your cart around and try again on the way back. Head back to where you found the cart and Ascend through the ceiling to reach the top floor again.

Walk back around the corner and over to a large section of broken floor. Jump down from here and use your paraglider to glide through the new entrance created by breaking the large rock just now. Jump down the hole in this room and glide over to the northern end of one of the broken floors to find a chest containing a Soldier Reaper.

Hit the gong to unlock the fifth and final padlock. Hit the yellow switch behind you to open the gate. Walk out and turn right to return to the altar, which you can activate to open the drawbridge. Head into the room ahead to begin the fight with the temple’s boss Marbled Gohma.
