As with the many of the other locked prison cells, the trick to ticking off the optional objective – locate the cache in cell D-02-106 – is finding a computer and tapping a button.

How to unlock cell D-02-106 in Starfield Echoes of the Past

To unlock cell D-02-106 and get the Starfield Echoes of the Past cache, activate the D-block section 02 cell release switch in a control room close to the cell.

To find the room, start from the cell itself. The best way to do this is to follow the blue quest marker, which will lead you to D-block. Try to open the cell and you’ll see a message explaining that to unlock it you’ll need a computer, different to some of the other doors in the prison, opened using lock picking and a digipick. The ‘computer’ is a bit of a misnomer as, it’s actually a wall-mounted switch.

To find the switch, face the cell, turn right and follow the path out of the block. Take the first flight of stairs on your left down to the level below.

Head up the stairs in front of you to a guard tower, left of the Kitchen room and right of the shower room. Enter the security room at the top, and on the right-hand wall you’ll find the D-block section 02 cell release switch next to a broken intercom.

Several of the cells found in this area can be opened and have some loot of their own to be found, so be sure to check any you go past to see if there’s anything good on offer.

Tap the switch and you’ll hear a satisfying thump to confirm the opening of the cell’s security door. Retrace your steps back to cell D-02-106 and head inside to loot the cache and tick off the optional objective. Along with a random weapon (we found a Modified Refined Orion) and ammo boxes, you’ll find a pair of digipicks, a frag grenade, a stun mine, and two cutters under the bed. With that, you can get back to finding Jasper Kryx’s cell to get your full rewards for the quest.
