How to get Foreign Books in Rise of the Ronin

You can get several Foreign Books in Rise of the Ronin simply by completing side missions and opening chests in the open world. Foreign Books are set drops from specific chests and you can see mission rewards before you take them on. In total, there are 40 Foreign Books. Getting all of these will allow you to unlock special passive abilities tied to your gadgets, such as the Glider, the Detector, and the Fire Pipe.

Foreign Book usage

When you have enough Foreign Books, you can take them to Igashichi Iizuka. Before you unlock the Technology Development option, you will have to complete the main story missions until you meet him. Once you have completed his first quest, you will unlock your Bond with Igashichi.

More unlock requirements?

You’ll need more than Foreign Books to get all the upgrades. You will also have to deepen your Bond with Igashichi and complete other tasks in the open world.

Foreign Books are only used as an unlocking prerequisite. You don’t need to spend a certain number of Foreign Books to unlock the abilities, but you will need a certain number of them to purchase the skills. Put simply, once you have 10 Foreign Books you can give them to Igashichi and you will be able to purchase the first few upgrades using your money. The number of Foreign Books you have will never decrease.
