How Do I Get Point Blank Kills in Modern Warfare 2?

Simply put, a point blank kill in MW2 is counted when you’re less than 5 meters away from your opponent when you shoot them.

It doesn’t really matter which weapon you shoot them with, as long as you’re close enough to land a killing shot. There’s a few ways you can increase you chances, however.

Choose A Short Range Weapon

Some weapons are better at short range than others in Modern Warfare 2. While a Sniper Rifle might be powerful, the long reload time can leave you immensely vulnerable to a counter attack. Worse still is if the person behind you’re trying to sneak up on realizes you’re there before you can get a shot off.

Instead, SMGs are your friend here. They’re powerful at close range and should let off enough bullets to prevent your opponent from reacting. Pistols are also pretty effective, and if you’re confident enough, a Shotgun will really finish off an enemy fast.

Perk Up

Your choice of perks is always important – but if you want to get up close and personal with an enemy, it becomes even more crucial. The problem is, some killstreaks in MW2 can give away your position before you even get close to a baddie.

Try perks that let you move around without getting flagged up – like Cold Blooded which hides you from enemy optics and Ghost which hides you from UAVs. Also ones that increase your speed, such as Double Time.

It’s also useful to have equipment such as Dead Silence, which will temporarily muffle your footsteps meaning snipers won’t hear you sneaking up on them for a sneaky close range kill.

Keep It Tight

Map wise, corridors and enclosed spaces are your friend in Modern Warfare 2. It’s much harder to sneak up on an enemy across a wide open space, and you’re far more likely to get third partied by someone else as you hunt your target.

The idea of Point Blank is to reward you for getting in close – and some areas of the maps are better for this than others. For example, the corridors of the Breenburgh Hotel are much easier to get a Point Blank kill in than the main foyer.

The Santa Sena Border Crossing may be something of a Marmite-map for players at the moment- but its narrow shape, plus extensive cars for cover – make it a decent arena for ambushing an opponent at close range.

It’s not an ideal tactic but it definitely helps to secure more point blank kills.

Hopefully, these tips will help you rack up those Point Blank kills, and get you both the much needed XP for your Operator – and help towards your weapon mastery too.
