Perk Packages are a new system introduced in Modern Warfare 2 that allows you to expand your toolkit in every match you play.

With Perk Packages, you’ll have access to four different perks over the course of a match. But before you get excited at the thought of having four perks active immediately, know that it isn’t quite so simple.

You’ll have two base perks active when a match starts, and then one bonus perk and one ultimate perk will unlock further into the match.

Bonus perks can come online quicker the better you’re performing, granting a significant boost and helping you turn a winning streak into a sure-fire success.

The first bonus pack unlocks four minutes into a match, and the second after eight minutes. But for every ten points you score – from kills, assists, etc. – one second is knocked off the perk timer.

Up to five custom perks packages can be saved at any one time, so feel free to experiment with perk combinations to match each of your loadouts.

Modern Warfare 2: Best Perks

These are the most useful perks that we’ve found in Modern Warfare 2, providing power, equipment and ability versatility, and increased survivability.

Basic Perks

Modern Warfare 2 Overkill Perk

PerkDescription
Overkill One of the most simple and straightforward perks in Modern Warfare 2, but it’s a classic for a reason. Overkill swaps out your subweapon for a primary weapon, allowing you to carry two at once. This perk can massively increase your damage-dealing potential and aggressive options in Modern Warfare 2, giving you a whole extra range of weapons to build the perfect loadout.
Double Time Double Time is a perk that is definitely worth taking if you hate sitting around and camping in Modern Warfare 2. This perk doubles the duration of your Tactical Sprint, allowing you to zip around the map at top speed for much longer before your stamina drains. If you like pushing and playing up close, Double Time can help you get to where you need to be. It even speeds up your stealthier options too, providing a 30% boost to your crouching movement speed.

Bonus Perks

Fast Hands

PerkDescription
Quick Fix This perk hugely increases your staying power in Modern Warfare 2, and you’ll be thankful for it when running low on health. Whenever you kill an enemy with Quick Fix active, health regeneration kicks in for you right away. This encourages pushing and taking risks in ways you might not have felt secure in otherwise.
It isn’t just kills that help with Quick Fix, capturing and being on the objective also increases your health regeneration speed. Don’t worry about holding back in safety, use Quick Fix to get out there and take your health back.
Fast Hands While it won’t increase your weapon’s rate of fire, this perk increases your reload and weapon swap speeds, and shortens the time it takes you to use equipment. Pretty much any dead time is removed with fast hands, and it feels great to not have to worry as much about fumbling to reload in the middle of a firefight. This perk ensures you’ll almost always have a weapon active when you need it in Modern Warfare 2.

Ultimate Perks

Hardline Killstreak Reducer

PerkDescription
HardlineThis perk decreases the cost of your killstreak by 1, and the cost of your scorestreak by 125 points. While the passive bonuses afforded by perks can provide a substantial boost to your performance, killstreaks and scorestreaks offer much flashier, active abilities that can instantly turn a match in your favor. Using a perk slot to improve your chances of activating killstreaks is an incredibly worthwhile trade-off.
SurvivorWhen you would die with the Survivor perk active, you’ll instead enter Last Stand. And you aren’t just given the chance to get a few vengeful shots in at your killer either, Survivor comes with the ability to revive yourself from Last Stand once per life. And just in case this seems a little niche, Survivor allows your downed teammates to be revived at a faster rate too, providing an increase in survivability for the whole squad.

That does it for our guide to the best perks in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. Choose your perks and loadout wisely and you’ll be winning match after match in no time.
