How much did Palworld cost to make
Based on a blog post from Pocketpair CEO Takuzo Mizobe, Palworld’s budget was close to one billion yen. In dollar terms, it comes to $6.76 million at the time of writing this article. Considering that Horizon Forbidden West and The Last of Us Part 2 from Sony cost $212 million and $220 million respectively, the Palworld budget is impressive. This feat becomes even more incredible once you do the math and check how much it made in such a short span of time (spoilers, we did just that).
Mizobe noted that their original plan didn’t have a budget and that they wanted to go till their “bank account reaches zero.” It’s an audacious statement and that mindset could have sunk their ship had Palworld not been a massive success. With over 7 million copies sold in 5 days, it’s clear that the game has found a large audience on PC. That doesn’t even include Xbox Series X|S sales and Xbox Game Pass players.
How much money did Palworld make
If we consider that the majority of Palworld copies were sold at $26.99 (it’s back to $29.99 now), its current 8 million copies sold milestone brings it to a rather significant amount if we don’t consider regional pricing. Steam takes a cut, of course.
This cut drops from 30 percent to 25 percent for income over $10 million and then 20 percent if it soars over $50 million. With the mental gymnastics out of the way, this comes to $164.6 million in total revenue from 8 million units of Palworld. That’s well over 20 times its development budget.
Even Spider-Man 2 took 11 days to reach 5 million copies sold (via BenjiSales on X), meaning that Palworld is onto something incredible with its blend of mechanics.
