Modern Warfare 3 campaign walkthrough mission 12 – Danger Close

With the team honing in on Makarov, the Modern Warfare 3 Danger Close mission puts you in control of air support over a sprawling military airbase. Playing from the position of a Shadow Company gunship, you’ll have to keep Price, Gaz, Farah, and Alex safe on the ground while they storm the base.

Modern Warfare 3 Danger Close walkthrough

In control of the gunship, you’ll have access to three types of weapons: missiles, 40 mm rounds, and 10 mm rounds. Each one serves its purpose and you’ll need to swap between the three to target different enemies and vehicles but also to allow for reloading time. For vehicles, use missiles; for clusters of soldiers use 40 mm; and for lone soldiers, use 100 mm rounds.

The mission is extremely linear so shouldn’t be too much trouble. The key is to avoid reigning down fire on the task force. Pick off moving vehicles such as planes, helicopters, and transports as quickly as possible. Miss one of these and you’ll be booted back to the most recent checkpoint. Note that you’ll occasionally have to contend with missiles targeting the gunship, use flares to avoid direct hits.

Start the mission and take out the first wave of hostiles, continue on until the team breaches the first hangar. A mortar team will start firing. Take them out quickly. The team will then move on to the second hanger, spawning a tank, RPG positions, and several trucks. Take these out.

As the mission draws to a close, a helicopter will show up, presumably carrying Makarov. Wait for it to reach the hanger and stabilise in the air, then unleash all you’ve got to take it out quickly and keep the task force safe.

Destroy the hanger with a missile when prompted to complete the Modern Warfare 3 Danger Close mission and push on to the Trojan Horse mission.
