The prospect of Halo and Call of Duty joining forces has always been an exciting one. Following Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision, the potential of a collaboration has never been closer. Recent leaks claim a crossover between the two franchises was on the cards during the Modern Warfare 3 cycle, but was sadly thrown away.
With Modern Warfare 3’s cycle coming to an end, the scrapped collaboration may not be locked away in the gulag forever. If the leaks are to be believed, Master Chief and Frank Woods may be set to team up in the post-launch support for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6.
Master Chief in Call of Duty?
Notable Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope reported the original collab between Halo and CoD was meant to happen in one of the six Modern Warfare 3 seasons. The crossover was scrapped “for completely unknown reasons” leaving many disappointed that it never appeared in Sledgehammer Games’ title.
While Microsoft has been keen to keep Master Chief away from fighting human forces in mainline Halo titles, the character has seen other crossovers in recent years. For example, the sci-fi super soldier was infamously added to Fortnite alongside classic map Blood Gulch, and the Spartan was even added to Rainbow Six Siege.
All hope is not lost for the character’s CoD debut. Fellow leaker CODIIINTEL claims Master Chief will be loading into Call of Duty matches at some point during the Black Ops 6 cycle which begins on October 25. The original plan was to introduce a Master Chief Operator skin alongside a range of themed cosmetic items, such as the iconic MA5B Assault Rifle and a Covenant Energy Sword.
Despite the lack of Halo content appearing in Modern Warfare 3, it’s exciting to see the possibility of two of the biggest shooter franchises in gaming joining forces for the very first time. You can already picture Master Chief wielding an Energy Sword and slaying enemies on Nuketown.
The crossover also shows that the newly-named Halo Studios and the teams behind Call of Duty aren’t opposed to working together. Perhaps Halo fans will see Spartans inspired by Ghost in future releases which are already in development.
When is Master Chief appearing in Call of Duty?
If the leaks are to be believed, Master Chief will be making his Call of Duty debut at some point during the Black Ops 6 cycle. There’s a chance Activision could kick off the first post-launch season with a bang or it could launch later down the line when the focus moves towards the next Call of Duty release.
As always, it’s important to take leaks and rumours with a pinch of salt as there’s always a chance Activision decides to take things in a different direction with its collaborations. The demand for a Halo crossover is certainly there so we’ll have to wait and see if a once-unthinkable partnership will come to fruition.
