How to get around Servers at Capacity message in Helldivers 2

This issue is likely caused by two particular problems. Either there are already too many players than the server can handle, or too many players are attempting to log onto the servers at once. In each case, this causes excess strain on the servers which can only handle so much, resulting in the error message being delivered to unlucky players.

Luckily, there are a few things you can do to try and get around this and into the game. Here are the steps you should take in order to get yourself onto the game and spreading democracy once more:

Check server status

Before doing anything else, check if the servers are actually up. The game servers could be down for maintenance, or have crashed due to technical issues. There’s no point trying to get onto a server that isn’t even running after all, so check the game’s website, social media channels, or official Discord server for an announcement.

Watch the full intro video

A few players have reported that by watching the entire intro video instead of skipping past it to the main menu has helped them. We can’t confirm whether or not this actually works, but considering how easy it is, it’s certainly worth a try before doing anything more drastic.

Restart your game, PC, or console

Sometimes, all it takes is a quick restart. Close the game and boot it back up to see if you can get in. If this fails, try restarting your entire PC or console. Open the game back up, and in many cases this will fix the issue right away. If not, we still have a few options for you to try.

Alex’s Advice

If you’re having issues with any other error messages in Helldivers 2, restarting your game, PC, or console can also solve this, so try it out.

Change to IPv4

This is one change that many players have reported as helping them. Open up your network settings, and select IPv4 (Internet Protocol Version 4) and 8.8.8.8 as your DNS server. Try disabling IPv6 which playing, too.

Add as an exception for antivirus software

Antivirus software can sometimes misidentify games as a threat, causing issues for players. Open yours up, and add Helldivers 2 as one of the programs to be exempt from scanning, which may solve the issue.

Verify game files

If you’re playing on PC, head to your Steam library, right click on Helldivers 2 and select ‘Properties’. From here, open up the ‘Installed Files’ tab, and click ‘Verify integrity of game files’. This will scan your files for any abnormalities, fixing any issues if they exist.
