How to improve Liberation progress in Helldivers 2’s Galactic War

Finish missions on specific planets to move the liberation progress bar forward.

How to track Helldivers 2 Galactic War Status

Helldivers 2’s War Status can be tracked right from the Galactic War console near the front of your Destroyer ship. You can also open the ‘Dispatches’ menu on the bottom right of your screen for the latest Major Order. This is done by pressing Z on PC or L2 on PS5. With real-time updates on liberated planets and enemy offensives, the ongoing war’s results depend on the active Helldivers in-game and the difficulty levels they choose. This will have a direct impact on the liberation progress of planets and Major Order progress. Here’s what Major Orders and Personal Orders mean.

Major Order

Major Orders push the main campaign forward in Helldivers 2. These focus on a specific faction (Automaton or Terminid) and task players with defending or attacking specific planets or sectors. Most Major Orders arrive at 8 AM CT (1 PM GMT and 2 PM UK time) and have deadlines of a day or more. They are community-wide efforts and Medals are rewarded to all players for succeeding even if they didn’t participate in the Major Order. Finishing this challenge before the timer ends will progress the war effort and give the community another Major Order on the next day. This fansite is a great way to keep track of liberation percentages, complete with estimated failure and win conditions.

Arrowhead Game Studios has a habit of introducing new enemies, mission types, and planets in Major Orders, often without warning. Factory Striders and Gunships snuck into a recent update. Failed Major Orders will not provide rewards and can have an impact on planets’ liberation progress and future enemy attacks. Here are some Major Orders that players have participated in so far:

  • Activate the Terminid Control System – Play unique missions to activate this system on barrier planets.
  • Liberate Malevelon Creek: Retake this crucial planet after suffering a bitter defeat.
  • Operation Swift Disassembly: Fight Automatons and take planets away from their control.
  • Operation Rearing: Liberate planets to construct E-710 farms.
  • The Reclamation: Fight off an Automaton Invasion Fleet in the Valdis Sector.

Personal Order

Personal Orders, on the other hand, are not tied to the liberation of planets. Instead, they’re daily challenges that are swapped for new ones every day. They involve using specific weapons, stratagems, or targeting specific enemies to succeed. If you enter a match with allies, their kills also count towards your Personal Order. While there is no consequence for failing a Personal Order, you lose out on some Warbond Medals. Here are some Personal Orders that Helldivers 2 players have come across in the past:

How does Liberation progress work in Helldivers 2?

Finishing missions during Liberation Campaigns will push the liberation progress towards 100 percent. A planet being liberated will steadily lower its liberation progress if enough players aren’t finishing missions. This rate can be altered by the Game Master. Only a certain number of planets are accessible at any given time in Helldivers 2. Inaccessible planets are either completely liberated or are blocked by other planets that need liberating. Invading forces can be fought in Defend Campaign missions while Liberation Campaigns are focused on pushing the liberation status to 100 percent.

Liberation progress can be sped up by doing the following in Helldivers 2:

  • Finish missions in the easiest difficulty level and quickly extract. While harder missions push the liberation progress bar more, they aren’t worth the extra time investment.
  • If most players target a specific planet, they can quickly clear planets as a community. This might also result in other active planets being ignored, dropping their liberation progress bars.

What are supply lines in Helldivers 2’s Galactic War?

All planets in Helldivers 2 are connected by an invisible supply chain. When a planet is being attacked by Terminids or Automatons, neighboring planets will be cut off if they are connected to it. Cut-off planets cannot be accessed, making them prone to being captured by enemy factions

Based on our time with the game, Liberation Campaigns are more rewarding as they have a larger impact on the Galactic War’s progress. They open up new planets along supply lines to liberate. But Defense missions are easier to play as they largely involve defeating large waves of enemies. Terminid attacks usually result in Liberation Campaigns while Automaton offensives start with Defense Campaigns. Failing the latter as a community will cut neighboring planets off and trigger a Liberation Campaign.

How can you contribute to the Galactic War?

Progress in the Galactic War is determined by how much effort each player has put into liberating planets in Helldivers 2. This includes primary objectives, clearing specific structures, or failing to do so. Liberation progress for a planet starts at zero percent and successful missions push this towards 100 percent. But remember that the liberation progress bar percentage will steadily decline if players are not actively finishing missions. Push the Helldivers 2 Galactic War status forward with targeted offensives as a part of a wider community effort.

This means that your progress is directly affected by that of other players. It rewards community-wide efforts organized via social media and other channels to liberate or defend specific planets. Coordinated efforts ensure that the main campaign of Helldivers 2 moves forward, offering new enemies to face and tools to use. The latest Warbond, Democratic Detonation, is one of the many ways to equip yourself for Major Orders. So dive back into the game and pick your targets wisely to improve Super Earth’s odds of victory.
