Best Directors of Football in FM24

First and foremost, a Director of Football can play a major role in your club’s recruitment team, making sure you’re scouting the right places in order to find the best players, especially wonderkids and free agents, as well as helping with negotiating transfers and contracts.

For that reason, their key attributes are ‘Judging Player Ability’, ‘Judging Player Potential’ and ‘Negotiating’, and ideally you would want at least a 16 in the first two. Players with good Player Ability are ready to slot into your first team, while those with good Potential are more likely to be youth players to develop over time. Lastly, Negotiating only really matters if you’re leaving contract negotiations up to them (which I am guilty of because I’m very lazy).

We’ve chosen a list of the top Directors of Football in the game according to these stats so that you can take your pick:

Be aware that these Directors of Football all have high reputations and high wage demands. As such, unless you’re in charge of a top team like Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, you might find it more difficult to lure some of these DoFs to your club.

How to pick the best Director of Football in FM24

As well as their stats, there are a few things you want to keep in mind when choosing a director of football.

Firstly is their preferred formation and playing style. They will look to scout players that match their preferred style, so you should find a DoF that matches yours. If you play a narrow 4-1-2-1-2, there’s no point in having a DoF who scouts wingers, while you wouldn’t want to be bombarded with full-backs if you’re playing a 3-4-3.

Secondly, you want to pay attention to which countries they have a good scouting knowledge of. A good idea is to make sure they’ve got a good knowledge of the country you’re managing in, as well as one or two highly-ranked countries. For example, if you were managing in Sweden, a DoF with extensive knowledge of Sweden and at least a good knowledge of a couple of top countries like England, Spain and Germany would be ideal.

But if you’re looking for the best wonderkids, maybe think about a DoF with good knowledge of Brazil and Argentina instead. Think about where you want to scout, and choose a DoF with experience in that area to pick up the best youngsters. One underrated choice in FM24 is Japan, as they typically evolve into a top nation over time, and Japanese youngsters will net you a lot of commercial revenue from shirt sales.
