- Finishing this quest involves getting courtly attire and sneaking into a masquerade ball in Vernworth Hall.
- You’ll then find a secret entrance before meeting Wilhelmina.
- She will let you spy on the false Arisen and Queen Disa.
- Report back to Captain Brant for your reward.
Uncovering the secrets of the false Arisen is just one part of The Stolen Throne quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2. It also involves disguising yourself, attending a masquerade ball in Vernworth, and making an unlikely ally. Read on for a detailed walkthrough of the entire quest.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 The Stolen Throne quest walkthrough
You’ll get The Stolen Throne quest from Captain Brant at Vernworth’s Stardrop Inn. You need to have finished An Unsettling Encounter (overhear a conversation in Allard’s Chambers at Vernworth Castle) and The Caged Magistrate beforehand. Disa’s Plot and Monster Culling need to be done too but those are early quests that shouldn’t pose much trouble. In The Stolen Throne, your objective is to gain as much information as possible about the false Sovran and understand Queen Disa’s role. Captain Brant will give you an Eventide Mask, essential to entering the masquerade ball.
Where to get Courtly Breeches and Tunic in Dragon’s Dogma 2
To enter the masquerade, Captain Brant will tell you that you need courtly attire. You can get formal raiment (Courtly Breeches and Tunic) right in Vernworth. Here are some places where you can find this item:
- The Guest Chambers on the second floor of Vernworth Castle will have formal raiment for you. Remember that guards won’t chase you here in the morning.
- Regentkin Sven’s Chambers on the same floor contains a chest with courtly clothes. You can also start the Masked Correspondence quest here as you will meet Patrick at the masquerade ball.
- Finish the Ornate Box side quest and you will be rewarded with the outfit on the third day after starting this quest.
- Allard’s Estate and the Comptroller’s Home in the Noble Quarter have these items in two rooms on their respective second floors.
- If you accidentally misplace these items, you can purchase them at two locations. Philbert’s Sundries in Vernworth sells them for 305,000 Gold while Ibrahim’s Scrap Store at Checkpoint Rest Town sells them for 610,000 Gold.
Entering the Masquerade Ball
Now that you’ve got the right outfit, equip it and the mask before entering the masquerade at Vernworth Hall at night. Your weapon and cape don’t matter. Note that the ball is held once every two nights and the guard at the front door will tell you to come back later if it isn’t happening. In that case, sleep at the inn or wait at a bench.
Once you head inside, you’ll trigger a cutscene where the false Sovran heads into a hallway. You can partake in the festivities for a bit before following him. Here, you’ll find a hidden door behind a fake stone wall between the two storage room doors. It’s not as hidden as the secret entrance in the Nameless Village. We’ve marked it in the image above, just in case. Sneak into the passage and you will arrive at a room whose balcony leads into the Rose Chateau Bordelrie, a premium brothel.
Spy on the false Sovran and Queen Disa
You’ll run into Wilhelmina here, one of Dragon’s Dogma 2’s romanceable characters. She will assist you and let you spy on the false Arisen and Queen Disa. This happens once she takes you from the palace grounds to her chambers on the second floor and asks you to look through a peephole. Here, you’ll learn more about the arrangement between them. Phaesus is a name that pops up in the conversation and he’ll play a significant role in shaping the game’s events. You will also get a Myrmecoleon Card after this encounter if this is the first time you’re meeting Wilhelmina. It’ll help you access the brothel.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 The Stolen Throne quest rewards
Returning to Captain Brant after spying on the false Arisen will let you complete The Stolen Throne. You’ll be rewarded with a Wakestone Shard and 6500 Gold.
How to fix Dragon’s Dogma The Stolen Throne bug
Some players on Reddit report not being able to finish this quest due to a variety of reasons. While finding the secret entrance can be a challenge, that’s not what’s soft-locking their progress. Some players found that the guards would turn aggressive after the first breach of the dress code and would remember it on subsequent masquerade nights. Others reported that cutscenes wouldn’t trigger as expected. Redoing the quest after resting in-game solved these issues for most players. But if you’re still stuck, consider starting a fresh save. Capcom releases patches often so you can look forward to these issues being resolved with time.
