If you’ve been playing as a Fighter in Dragon’s Dogma 2, then the best shields will increase your Magick defence and raw Strength drastically.

You’re going to be able to couple these shields with Swords and Maces, though the best form of offence is defence. Here they are.

What are the best shields in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

There’s only a few shields in Dragon’s Dogma 2, which makes sense since only Fighters and Warfarers can wield them. Of them all, a few of them are locked behind the game’s True Ending, after which you unlock the Dragonsforge.

Lustrous Targe is best for early-game builds

The Lustrous Targe is awarded as part of the Till Death Do Us Part quest, which you can reach after completing A Nameless Village. You need to save Gregor in order to earn this shield, and it’s totally worth it in the end.

  • Strength: 62
  • Magick: 0
  • Knockdown: 217
  • Weight: 3.65Kg

The Lustrous Targe is a giant shield, with extreme strength. Its most notable limitation is that it’s not particularly well versed in defending against Slash attacks, though it’s got a proficiency in dealing damage with Strike attacks instead.

It really shines in its Knockdown power, which is going to be extremely useful with smaller foes that you can send flying. While the Battahli Shield is a better shield, it’s a little harder to get hold of since you need to worm your way over to Bakbattahl, a mid-to-late-game area.

Continental Shield

Once you have reach Bakbattahl, the Continental Shield is the best choice for the mid-game. It’s going to be sold by all of the Armorers and Smithies there, and the cost is only 17,800. Not too bad at all, really. As with most weapons and equipment in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you’re going to need to upgrade it in Battahl.

  • Strength: 95
  • Magick: 0
  • Knockdown: 248
  • Weight: 2.4Kg

The Continental Shield is proficient in both Slash and Strike defence, so you’re going to be able to protect yourself against the small variety of enemies in Battahl and the Volcanic region. It’s also going to put up a good fight against Dragons, Drakes, and other winged beasts.

Dragon’s Aegis is the ultimate shield in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Unlocked only after the game’s fully complete, this is one the best shields to gear yourself up for New Game Plus. It’s available from the Bay Wayside Shrine, where the Dragonforge can be found to upgrade your equipment to the highest level.

  • Strength: 186
  • Magick: 0
  • Knockdown: 304
  • Weight: 3.4Kg

Where the Dragon’s Aegis falters is a specific resistance to Slash and Strike attacks, alongside Magick, though there’s nothing better than this in the game realistically. It’s also quite a small shield, though that won’t affect much when it’s sporting such sheer power.

Above, we’ve listed all of the Shields in Dragon’s Dogma 2. They’ve been ranked in a tier list in descending order, with the weakest towards the top and the absolute best towards the bottom. Of them all, only the Dragon’s Aegis is locked behind the game’s Hidden Ending, while the rest are all available throughout your game’s ordinary path.

Can you parry in Dragon’s Dogma 2?

There is a Parry mechanic in Dragon’s Dogma 2 which lets you deflect enemy attacks. However, only Fighters can use this skill, and they need to have it unlocked as one of their core skills.

Can you dodge in Dragon’s Dogma 2 while using a shield?

Unfortunately, there’s only a few vocations that can dodge in Dragon’s Dogma 2. This includes the Hunter and Mystic Spearhand, though the Fighter can’t do this to avoid attacks. Thanks to the shield and the added weight of a sword or an axe, Fighters aren’t that agile and thus can’t dodge out of the way of attacks.
