What are seasonal characters in Diablo 4

Seasonal characters are new characters that must be created to enter a Diablo 4 Season. These characters can access the seasonal quests, new mechanics, and Diablo 4 Season Journey. You cannot use any of your Eternal Realm characters to play the seasonal content so you have to create a
new one.

Seasonal content can be accessed by finishing or skipping the Diablo 4 campaign. This mechanic is used to encourage trying new Diablo 4 classes: Rogue, Necromancer, Sorcerer, Druid, and Barbarian. This also lets you fine-tune your build. Consider our Diablo 4 build tier list if you’re entering Sanctuary again. Note that Season of the Malignant characters cannot be used in Season of Blood.

These are the features that seasonal characters get access to:

  • Battle pass progression for new cosmetic items and titles.
  • Season Journey progression for new items and battle pass favor.
  • Season-specific powers like Malignant Hearts and Vampire Powers.
  • Seasonal storylines like those of Cormond and Erys.
  • New endgame bosses and enemies.
  • New seasonal events like Blood Harvest activities.
  • Reworked class and enemy balance in addition to core mechanics like modifiers.
  • Better XP scaling and gold generation for a balanced experience.
  • Improved mounts and skills.
  • New unique items and easier means of acquiring them.

How to start Season 3 in Diablo 4

Head to the main menu and create a new seasonal character. From there, you can choose to skip the
campaign if you’ve already beaten it. If not, you’ll need to finish the main campaign first. Once you’re in the Seasonal Realm with your new character, head to the seasonal quest marked on the map. In Season 2, this was marked by a green leaf icon.

Magistrate Oren kicked off the Season of Blood with the Blood Money quest. As for Diablo 4 Season 3, we’ll know more once it’s out. You can then work your way to some sweet weapons and armor. The new season also brings new ways to get Diablo 4 unique items.

Season-specific powers are pretty powerful

Utilize Season-specific powers like Season 1’s Malignant Hearts and Season 2’s Vampire Powers to optimize your builds. Season 3 offers Loom-based powers and a new Seneschal companion.

While this is how a Season’s mechanics enter your arsenal, you can choose to roam around Sanctuary to take down dungeons and Strongholds. But note that some endgame activities will benefit you more if you’ve played through the seasonal questline.

What happens to seasonal characters after a Diablo 4 season ends

Once a Diablo 4 season is over, seasonal characters are transferred to the Eternal Realm. The Seasonal Realm and Eternal Realm are two different regions that contain your characters, known as Wanderers. The former contains content and season-specific features unique to that particular season. You don’t need any purchases to access the Eternal Realm.

While you can still play as Eternal characters and level them up, you lose access to the battle pass, seasonal storyline, and other unique mechanics tied to that season. And don’t worry about losing all your progress. With Season of Blood, developer Blizzard has ensured that Diablo 4 renown rewards will be passed on to new seasonal characters. This is true for Season of a Construct as well.

This means that you start with bonus skill points, paragon points, potion charges, and obol capacity upgrades. Previously discovered altars of Lilith and their corresponding renown will be unlocked right from the beginning. You can still choose to do more side quests to increase your renown further.

What happens to items and your stash after a Diablo 4 season ends

One important thing to note is that when a season ends, items of a seasonal character are sent to a Withdaw-Only Stash that lasts for another season. So if you miss out on taking your Season 1 items before the end of Season 2, they will be unrecoverable. New players might find this seasonal stash strange so remember to keep an eye on your seasonal characters.

That covers seasonal characters in the game. Like Cormond and Malignant monsters in Season of the Malignant, Season of Blood brought a new questline and new bosses to fight alongside Erys. And in Season 3, harness the Loom with the new Diablo 4 Seneschal companion. And that;s before the extra Stash tabs and Diablo 4 WASD movement. If you’re looking for a massive damage build, consider our Diablo 4 Twisting Blades Rogue build. The latest season will drop on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
