While the FTAC Recon is overlooked for the most part, in preference to other weapon offerings in the game, it has its own set of pros and cons that are worth discussing, so let’s takes take a deeper look into the FTAC Recon. The FTAC Recon is a decent single-fire weapon, but it certainly isn’t the meta. Still, do not make the mistake of overlooking this piece of weaponry as it’ll come into play and become pretty useful during Ground War Mode and Warzone 2.0 when it releases in conjunction with Season 1 of Modern Warfare 2’s multiplayer on November 16, 2022.

FTAC Recon Overview

The FTAC is basically your run-of-the-mill Battle Rifle. Powerful, but not ideal for fast-paced gunplay. The .458 Battle Rifle is basically superior to the Assault Rifle weapon category in terms of its damage output and stopping power but falls behind when it comes to its fire rate and magazine capacity.

The FTAC Recon is a member of the M4 weapons platform and can easily be created by swapping out receivers. The magazine capacity is limited to just 10 rounds with a reserve of 50 rounds of ammunition. It holds .458 SOCOM Caliber bullets. As for the firing modes, it offers two firing mechanisms being semi-auto and full-auto.

It’s a killer Battle Rifle if wielded by the right hands. Although recoil can be a bit of a problem due to its supreme power, it can be controlled with the help of some build adjustments via the use of attachments. The FTAC Recon is a worthy Battle Rifle in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. This weapon is highly underrated but it has a few tricks up its sleeve. It’s a Battle Rifle that has decent damage output and can stop enemies within their tracks.

You’d casually hop on a Modern Warfare 2 session and expect the FTAC Recon to perform just as well as other weapons but if you’re of that mindset, the FTAC Recon is not for you. This Battle Rifle is for players that want to strategically plan out their sightlines and wait for the money shot. Fire modes can be switched for players to take out multiple enemies in full-auto mode, unlike sniper rifles

THE FTAC Recon Battle Rifle hones inspiration from the real-life AR-15. The AR-15 is a lightweight semi-auto rifle based on the Colt AR-15 design. Patents for the AR-15 were sold off to the Colt’s Manufacturing Company by ArmaLite in 1959. The Patent eventually expired in 1977, leading to copies flooding the market. Now, the AR-15 style of weapon is sold as a modern sporting rifle and has become the most beloved and vilified rifle in the United States.

How to Unlock The FTAC Recon

The FTAC Recon is a member of the M4 Weapons Platform manufactured by Tempus Armament. If you want to get your hands on this Battle Rifle at the start of the game, you won’t be able to, unfortunately, as the weapon will be locked by default.

So, your best bet would be to use whatever you have at your disposal being the M4, to level up your Weapons Platform Progression tree till you unlock the FTAC Recon. You’ll need to level up the M4 to level 13 to finally get your hands on the FTAC Recon.

FTAC Recon Weapons Platform

The FTAC Recon Battle Rifle is part of the M4 Weapons Platform manufactured by Tempus Armament. The FTAC Recon is one of the unlockable Battle Rifles in the Weapons Platform Progression Tree. You can swap out receivers for weapons in the M4 tree to obtain entirely different weapons. Players will start off with the M4 as a base weapon. Proceed to upgrade the M4 Weapons Platform all the way to level 13 to unlock the FTAC Recon.

The FTAC Recon serves as the basis for unlocking the FSS Hurricane. Simply grind the FTAC Recon to level 16 to get your hands on Hurricane’s Receiver to craft the FSS Hurricane. If you want to obtain the Icarus 556, upgrade the M4 all the way to level 18. Now, to obtain the M16, upgrade the 556 Icarus all the way to level 13. The M16 is the final unlockable weapon in the M4 Platform’s Progression Tree.

FTAC Recon Stats

The FTAC Recon features some decent stats across the board but due to its limited magazine capacity, it seems to lack the preference and attention it deserves. The Battle Rifle offers brutal damage output and stopping power and works well in medium to long-range scenarios.

Damage

The Damage output of the FTAC Recon is considerably high in contrast to the other weapon offerings in Modern Warfare 2’s Open Beta. At medium to long ranges, the FTAC recon can obliterate enemy operators within closed or open spaces. But it isn’t the ideal choice when going up against snipers dominating the longer sightlines as damage output tends to degrade over longer distances

Fire Rate

The FTAC Recon offers two firing modes, Semi-Auto and Full-Auto. Full Auto allows users to take out multiple enemies at a time if wielded by the right hands in medium to long-range sight lines, but the Battle Rifle is primarily a semi-auto weapon. So the Fire rate is drastically reduced in these circumstances. Expect to one-shot enemy operators with the right setup. Under worse circumstances, you could two-shot opponents. But the drawback stands that you’d have to body enemy agents quickly and reload at the same time.

Range

The FTAC Recon works best in the medium to long-range sight lines allowing users to go toe to toe against Assault Rifle and other Battle Rifle users, but due to its low rate of fire, it doesn’t fair well against close-quarter combat users with SMG loadouts. In this scenario, you need to ensure superior positioning surrounded by the right equipment traps scattered around your designated area. Simply put, if you’re in the crosshairs of a CQB player, pray for an accurate shot or your toast.

Accuracy

The FTAC Recon offers decent accuracy when operated from medium to long-range sight lines so make sure to take the ideal positioning and avoid picking fights with Snipers across rooftops, especially in Ground War Mode or Warzone 2.0.

Recoil Control

The FTAC Recon offers abysmal recoil control. The Gun is pretty hard to control after consecutive shots, especially in full-auto mode. You can supplement the awful recoil of the gun with some attachments, but that’s as good as things can get in terms of recoil control for the FTAC Recon.

Mobility

The FTAC Battle Rifle, when equipped offers players average levels of mobility. Not ideal for quickly repositioning and navigating lanes. Flanking is out of the question unless the circumstances are in your favor. With this in mind, you need to ensure a decent position from the get-go and keep a patience-oriented strategy in mind.

Handling

The FTAC Recon offers decent levels of handling, but this is deeply affected by the awful recoil control of the gun under most circumstances.

Bugs

Some players have reported a peculiar bug with the FTAC Recon. Specifically, the gun’s UI is bugged as users have experienced game-ruining experiences without noticing the bug in the first instance. The semi-auto and full-auto firing modes for the guns are switched. Full-auto actually allows single shots to be fired while semi-auto empties out the magazine. That’s quite understandable, considering the fact that the game was in Open Beta, and Infinity Ward asked players for feedback. Infinity Ward will definitely patch out this bug once the game launches on October 28, 2022.

Blueprints

Blueprints allow users to access weapons earlier in your level progression and weapons platform progression tree, enabling players to access powerful weaponry earlier on in the game. Thes come pre-built with custom attachments and weapon skins for players to enjoy unique weapon builds and experiences. Blueprints can be viewed in the armory section of the weapons tab. Currently, no blueprints are available for the FTAC Recon and will be listed once the game officially launches.

Attachments

Attachments for specific weapons can be unlocked as the player levels up. Additionally, newer attachments can be unlocked by progressing the Weapons Platform. Players can either unlock Weapons Platform Specific Attachments, usable with the Platform in question, being the M4 platform, or Universal Attachments, which can be equipped to every weapon in the game.
