If you were wondering if Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is playable on Wii U, don’t worry. We’ve got you covered. Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is the hotly anticipated sequel to Zelda Breath of the Wild (that’s right Tears of the Kingdom is not a DLC). In this new game, Link will have a new Fuse and Ultrahand ability and will explore Sky Islands among other exciting new features. But, will it be playable on Wii U? Let’s get into it.

Is Tears of the Kingdom available to play on Wii U?

In short, no. Tears of the Kingdom has been confirmed to only be available for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch family consoles. This means gamers will only be ably to enjoy Zelda Tears of the Kingdom when it releases in handheld console form only.

There is a precedent for making Zelda games available on Wii U (Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom’s immediate predecessor, was available on Wii U). However, since the Wii U e-shop has been recently closed, it seems unlikely that the game would make it onto the console. Also, sadly the Wii U has been relegated to the history books and there are no new games coming out on it. The console was discontinued on January 31, 2017.

Why is Tears of the Kingdom not available on Wii U?

There has been no official reason given as to why Tears of the Kingdom is not available on Wii U, however, the Wii U e-shop has recently been closed so downloading the game would be extremely difficult.

Has Wii U been discontinued?

Yes, as of January 31, 2017 production of Wii U’s was stopped.
