The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will not be a prequel and is instead a sequel to 2017’s Breath of the Wild. During its initial announcement trailer at E3 2019, it had already been revealed towards the end of the clip that the latest installment would be a follow-up to the successful opening entry.

The video that Nintendo initially showcased featured Link and Princess Zelda exploring a dark underground cave. After a few more minutes pass, they eventually come across a mummified cross that suddenly comes to life.

The dark tone of the snippet went down well with long time fans of the series as many praised its mysterious nature, which made it all the more intriguing. Even though it’s been more than three years since its first reveal, both newcomers and veteran franchise players are still excited for TotK’s arrival.
