Kuro Games’ latest open-world gacha game, Wuthering Waves, has had its fair share of problems since launch. Dialogue and localization issues, in particular, were immediately called out as some of its biggest weaknesses, with several players openly criticizing the game’s writing. This time, however, a few fans have begun praising the character design for one of Wuthering Waves’ newest protagonists, Jinhsi— though, of course, some wasted no time bringing up the fact that there isn’t much competition.
If you’ve been following the happenings around the game since launch, you may already be familiar with fan complaints regarding its “stilted and unnatural” dialogue. So it’s no coincidence that players are calling Jinhsi the best-written character in Wuthering Waves since the devs likely would have wanted to avoid a similar wave of backlash for one of their newest characters. Unfortunately, it isn’t all good news—her much-improved character design shines even more light on the rest of the game’s lackluster writing.
Over on Reddit, many agree that Jinhsi’s backstory is steps above her counterparts, but, as user servantphoenix pointed out, that’s only “because the rest of the cast has little to no writing whatsoever.” “The only reason [Jinhsi] shines is because [the developers] at least put some effort into writing her,” added CygnusXIV. It’s also worth noting that some, like Jiyan and Yinlin, have similarly garnered praise. But the majority, especially those on the original roster, haven’t been as lucky.
However, despite the community’s ongoing gripes with Wuthering Waves’ writing, Jinhsi’s overall positive reception bodes well for the game’s future. Since Kuro Games is doing its best to address the game’s current issues, including localization, some of its upcoming additions could end up becoming similarly praised. But for now, you’ll just have to wait until the next character arrives, like when the expected Zhezhi release date kicks off.
