Recent Call of Duty games have often been infamous for being bug-ridden, microtransaction-filled creations and the latest Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone installments are seemingly no different. Filled to the brim with near-identical bundles and forgettable cosmetics, players of the popular FPS series are now starting to get fed up as the rise of Activision’s aggressive Blackcell battle pass marketing push is making people even more frustrated than before.

Since its introduction during the beginning of Season 3, the Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone Blackcell offering quickly gained notoriety due to the fact that it was a more expensive option than the regular seasonal battle pass. Player outrage surrounding the greedy microtransaction became even more pronounced when the developers were caught reusing skin designs as part of their rewards for Season 4.

Now, with the community’s frustration starting to mount, disgruntled fans have started taking to social media sites like Reddit to call out Activision’s aggressive in-game push for Blackcell. One user named iDestroyMetaUsers created a post telling the developers to “please stop shoving Blackcell popups in my face every time I boot up the game.” Naturally, most of the people reacting to the thread agreed with this sentiment as one commenter noted that “Activision [wants] to squeeze all it can before dropping the tease for MW3.”

Although the idea of Activision wanting to get all it can out of Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone before the next installment is baseless and mere conjecture, their heavy marketing push centering on the more expensive battle pass option does make it seem as if this is the case. Unfortunately, these tactics do appear to be working as players continue to purchase many of the microtransactions that are available in the game.

Unless fans stop buying bundles and store items entirely in the future, then this outcome will more than likely continue even in the next installment. Hopefully though, the developers at least make it worth the players’ while with much better and more unique offerings than the ones the game currently has.
