With Call of Duty: Modern Ware 2 Season 4 set to launch later today, some players have been taking to Reddit to mock the Call of Duty team’s reuse of skin designs in the new BlackCell pass. Originally launching in Season 3, the BlackCell pass seems like it is going to be a staple of future Modern Warfare 2 seasons going forward.
In a Call of Duty blog post on June 13 the Modern Warfare 2 developers revealed what players could expect to unlock after spending $29.99 on the game’s second BlackCell pass:
- Access to the full Season 04 Battle Pass and 20 Tier Skips (25 on PlayStation®). This includes 1,400 COD Points awarded throughout the Battle Pass.
- The BlackCell Sector, which includes 1,100 COD Points, a new BlackCell Operator named Io, a Pro-Tuned Weapon Blueprint and a Finishing Move. Plus, for the first time in Modern Warfare® II, a custom Parachute and Contrails (the smoke behind your Operator when the Parachute is deployed).
- Immediate unlocking of adjacent Battle Pass Sectors to the BlackCell Sector, an alternate position on the Battle Map compared to the normal starting position. You are free to unlock Battle Map Sectors adjacent to either starting Sector at will after BlackCell purchase.
- Additional BlackCell-only Battle Pass content: six BlackCell Alt Operator Skins, six BlackCell Tracer Weapon Blueprints, and two Vehicle Skins.
- Operators using specific BlackCell Blueprint variants marked in-game as having Tracer Rounds should expect black and gold flourishes and other effects for these armaments.
- Players who upgrade to BlackCell after purchasing the Battle Pass will also receive 1,100 COD Points back.
While there are certainly a lot of upgrades, weapons, and cosmetic items on offer, players have been progressively getting more frustrated at the lack of originality when it comes to the weapon blueprints on offer in the BlackCell pass.
User box-fort2 took to Reddit with an edit showing just how similar a lot of these skins and blueprints were. The sentiment seems to be shared by a lot of players too with the majority of the comments below the post focusing on just how accurate the post is.
User tuan321bin replied by saying, “Remember folks, if you buy BlackCell, you’re not a wealthy person. You’re an idiot with too much money.”
Alongside this, other players pointed out their disappointment at Modern Warfare 2’s seeming lack of proper gold camo for weapons with user TheSeaGuardian saying, “The saddest part is all of those are MW19 and Cold War. Now they’ve scrapped it in favour of operator skins for battle passes. Golden guns are the king of CoD, why are they changing it to operators now?”
