Free-to-play Call of Duty spinoff Warzone 2.0 has now been detailed, with players chomping at the bit to get their hands on the game and explore the new map, Al Masrah.
Given the popularity of the shooter, many fans will be looking to preload the game ahead of time, so they’re not waiting for their consoles to download when the game goes live.
If you want to make sure you’re ready the moment the game goes live, we’ve got you covered.
When can I preload Warzone 2?
According to the official Call of Duty Twitter account, players on all platforms may now begin preloading Warzone 2 on their systems. They go on to state that access to the game will appear in-game at launch on November 16, 2022 at 10am PT (6pm UK time). The Season 1 Battle Pass will similarly be released on the same date. It’s also important to note that purchasing MW2 won’t be necessary in order to play Warzone 2.
How To Download Warzone 2 – expected steps to download Warzone 2
With the game available to pre-order now, it’s expected that many will want to find out how exactly they can download Warzone 2.
Taking PlayStation into consideration, here’s how you can access it on the PlayStation Store at 6PM today:
- Head over to the PlayStation Store
- Manually search Warzone
- At 6PM, it’s expected that the new Warzone 2 product page will be available
- Press download to start the install.
Alternatively, it’s expected that you can access the product page through the Modern Warfare 2 game, most likely locked but available to download through the main menu.
How big is the predicted Warzone 2 download?
Right now, there isn’t an awful amount of information on how large the download size is for the Warzone 2 preload – at least officially.
Those who already own Modern Warfare 2 are likely to be at an advantage, of course – as the game shares many assets with that one – so we can make some educated guesses.
Currently, Modern Warfare 2 clocks in at around 43GB for the base game, and then around a further 8GB for the Warzone 2 files – not counting the MW2 Multiplayer packs or Spec Ops. (Which pushes the game up to around 72GB)
However, according to CharlieIntel, the download for Warzone 2.0 has now appeared in the Xbox Store backend, with a whopping file size of 115GB – though this has yet to be confirmed by Activision.
The original Warzone was also quite hungry for disk drive space, and it seems the follow up will be no exception. If you need to make space by uninstalling the MW2 campaign, find out how to do so here.
We’ll update this page when we have official figures confirmed by Activision.
Warzone 2 is set to launch on November 16 and will also include the brand new DMZ mode, on top of the battle royale classic mode. You can read up on what else is coming in Season 1 here.
