It seems players are still getting frustrated with ongoing audio issues in free-to-play shooter Warzone 2.

The main problem that is being reported is with trying to hear player footsteps. And despite claims that some audio bugs were fixed in the game’s most recent patch, members of the CoD community say the issues still haven’t gone away entirely.

In fact, some players have gone so far as to say Warzone 2 has the ‘worst audio in Call of Duty history’ in threads on Reddit.

As Mosley_Gamer says: “Sometimes you can hear them loud and clear and other times they’re sprinting up a staircase and there’s absolute no audio at all.”

In the game’s update from November 22nd, 2022, Raven Software claimed they had “Fixed an issue with audio occlusion and directional audio.” – although it was unclear if they were referring to the footstep issue specifically.

Despite this dilemma, is there anything one can possibly do to fix this in Warzone 2? That’s where we come in to help. Down below we detail some fixes that could work plus the latest updates on whether this audio issue has been addressed or not.

How To Fix Audio Bug in Warzone 2

When it comes to fixing audio bugs like the footsteps issue, there’s only so much you can do. Ultimately, it’s a repair that will have to come from Raven Software and Infinity Ward through a patch or update.

That said, there is still some tricks you can try out to fix this issue. And we’ve provided you with the best ones that could work and improve your battle royale experience in Warzone 2.

Here’s the list:

Lower Music Volume

Though it’s pretty fundamental, it can be easy to forget about and is important to do, especially for a game like Warzone 2 where listening is so important. We recommend To turn down your music volume, here’s what you need to do:

  1. Visit the Settings Page
  2. Scroll down and select ‘Audio’
  3. Choose ‘Master Volume’ drop down menu
  4. Select ‘Music Volume’ and lower

Change Audio Mix to “Headphone Bass Boost”

This will boost the lower frequencies and help improve your audio reproduction to the best of its ability with the type of headphones you have, no matter if they’re inexpensive. To implement this change, here’s what you’ll need to do:

  1. Visit the Settings Page
  2. Scroll down and select ‘Audio’
  3. Choose ‘Audio Mix’ drop down menu
  4. Select ‘Headphone Bass Boost’

Turn Off Proximity Chat

Some will advise to keep it on so you can hear your enemies talk and move around a bit better. But if you’re playing with friends, it’s best to have Proximity Chat off so it doesn’t interfere with any of your communication and or your ability to hear your enemies approaching.

Don’t forget that if you do turn it off, you can still see your enemies talking in the Proximity Chat on your lefthand side where their username pops up in red with a microphone. To turn it off (or on if you prefer), you will need to do the following:

  1. Visit the Settings Page
  2. Scroll down and select ‘Audio’
  3. Scroll down to ‘Voice Chat’ section
  4. Turn Off/On ‘Proximity Chat’

Recent Audio Fixes in Warzone 2

At the moment, the footsteps bug is not mentioned on the game’s Trello boards as a known issue. So it’s currently hazy as to when and if the issue will be fixed.

In the Season 01 Reloaded patch that was released for Warzone 2 on December 14th, 2022, Call of Duty addressed audio cutting off when skidding, fixed audio bugs concerning Bomb Drones and the Circle Closing Countdown, and repaired an audio issue with vehicle engine sounds disappearing randomly.

However, no changes have been made in regards to the footstep audio bug that every now and then still persists. Even in the most recent patch on January 20th, 2023, no note was made about the footstep bug being fixed.

We’ll be keeping our ears to the ground on this one. But players will definitely be hoping for an update soon. In the meantime, many of the Warzone community are gearing up for the launch of the shooter’s Season 2 update – expected to land on February 15th, 2023.
