It has been a turbulent time in the Helldivers 2 community over the past few days after Sony announced that players will need to connect a PSN account to Steam. This led to a lot of backlash from the community, which resulted in Helldivers 2 becoming the most negatively reviewed paid game in Steam history.

Sony backtracked earlier today and announced that players will no longer be required to link a PSN account, which is great news for the community.

Following the announcement by Sony, the community took to social media and Reddit to react to the news, with U/ButtInTheSun saying “Like all Major Orders, this one was cleared within 48 hours.”

U/Pixel_Block_2077 was surprised at the news saying “Wait…they really listened? Huh…companies don’t usually do that. Guess Democracy actually *did* win this one,” while U/KnightsOfSparta said “Thank god this is over. Hope everyone remembers to adjust their reviews for ArrowHead’s sake.”

U/ChloooooverLeaf made a good point that with Sony looking to get into the PC market, seeing all of this backlash take place likely caused widespread panic in the company,

“200K negative reviews in 1 weekend is insane. The PlayStation US guys have probably been trying to get ahold of their JP contacts all weekend in a panic to get this reversed. Sony’s long-term plan heavily includes expanding into the PC space and this was NOT good for that big picture.”

It will be interesting to see whether this backlash affects Sony’s plans for breaking into the PC market. The publisher has found success so far with the likes of God of War and The Last of Us, but this is the first time Sony has encountered backlash from the PC community. Hopefully, this doesn’t affect future games coming to PC, but Sony will likely just put this down to being a learning experience that console and PC are two separate markets with different audiences. If nothing else, it will be a while before Sony tries to implement PSN into its PC products.

With the decision reversed, now is a good time to get back to what matters, Helldiving. Following the completion of the latest Major Order, a new message stated that the Terminids are now “a greater threat than ever before.” It looks like we will be focusing on them for the time being after having been focused on the Automatons last month.
