This past weekend has been a tough one for Helldivers 2 players. Sony announced that all PC players would be required to connect a PSN account to Steam to keep playing the game. Unfortunately, only 70 countries in the world have access to PSN services, leaving millions unable to continue playing the game when this change comes into effect on May 30th. Because of this, Helldivers 2 was delisted for those in the 170+ affected countries with no way to purchase the game.

After a lot of backlash from the community, which resulted in Helldivers 2 becoming the most negatively reviewed paid game in Steam history, Sony has now gone back on its plans and reverted the update that would require players to connect a PSN account.

In an announcement on X, the official PlayStation account has stated that players will not be forced to link a PSN account to Helldivers 2 to keep playing the game from May 30th.

“Helldivers fans — we’ve heard your feedback on the Helldivers 2 account linking update. The May 6 update, which would have required Steam and PlayStation Network account linking for new players and for current players beginning May 30, will not be moving forward. We’re still learning what is best for PC players and your feedback has been invaluable. Thanks again for your continued support of Helldivers 2 and we’ll keep you updated on future plans.”

This is fantastic news and shows that the community coming together to stand up against the announcement worked, as it would have meant that millions of players would have been locked out from the game permanently. It also looks like Sony may be rethinking whether future titles, such as the PC port of Ghost of Tsushima will need PSN too. Hopefully, now a lot of the Steam reviews will be changed to positive again to encourage new players to check out the game.

We have asked Sony whether the game will be made purchaseable in the 170+ countries where it was restricted this weekend but have yet to receive a response. Once/if we do, we will update you with the latest developments.

This news comes right before the start of the next Major Order, which will once again focus on the Terminids after it has been discovered that the Terminids are now “a greater threat than ever before.” After focusing on the Automatons throughout April, all eyes are on the Terminids and it looks like we will be dealing with them for the foreseeable. To help bring democracy to the Terminids, we highly recommend checking out our Helldivers 2 best weapons guide and best armor guide so you and your squad can be suitably equipped to serve liber-tea to all that stands in the way of freedom.
