The Finals received a new update as per usual on Wednesday, and it was a pretty significant patch that changed some rules for World Tour while also adding Emerald Rank. Following this update, Embark has just released a hotfix for The Finals, and this was done to smoothen out some performance issues that emerged after the launch of update 3.8.0.

Make sure to check out the update 3.8.0 patch notes to see all of the changes implemented. As mentioned, the update has added Emerald Rank to World Tour. There is also a store addition some fans have bemoaned as ruined thanks to a change from betas. Not only that, but leaks have also revealed a new Legendary skin reward for a future community event.

While fans are happy with update 3.8.0 adding Emerald Rank to World Tour, Embark noticed that the update resulted in some performance issues. A hotfix was just released today to remove these issues, but this has resulted in an uptick in crashing.

The Finals update 3.8.0 hotfix

On The Finals Discord, Embark Oscar shared the following message at 8:44AM BST on August 9th about a new hotfix following the release of 3.8:

“With update 3.8 we saw a dip in game performance, specifically related to network and bandwidth. What happened was that we fixed an issue related to collision, but in doing so, we accidentally began sending more network data than intended, which lead to bad server performance and an overall worse network experience!

“We have just now released an update to all platforms which solves this issue, meaning that you should all have a smoother experience across the board with less network related disruptions once you’ve updated.”

Following the release of this hotfix, Embark Oscar posted the following message less than one hour later:

“It seems like we have an uptick in the game crashing on launch after the hotfix we just put out. If you are experiencing this issue, please go to this bug thread:

Game cannot be launched due to…

And add the following there in a message;

  • Image of the issue or the text inside the error box
  • What platform you play on
  • Your player ID
  • What steps you have taken to solve it (restart game / steam / PC / verify game files, etc).

I’ll keep you all in the loop as we investigate.”
